Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

One in series of many small scale ship kits that Pyro made in the late 1950s/60s. Measures about 5-6 inches long when assembled. On November 15, 1577, Sir Francis Drake sailed from Plymouth, England in the 'Golden Hind,' accompanied by four smaller vessels. At the time, the great nations of Europe were squabbling for a share of the treasures to be found in the New World. Because Drake intended to visit land already claimed by Spain and Portugal, he was reported to be on a long voyage of discovery. The voyage lasted almost three years and his small ship completely circled the globe before returning to England. When she returned, the 'Golden Hind' was loaded with ingot and jewels plundered from the rich Spanish settlements along the West coast of South America.

Dyna-Products Grumman F9F Cougar - Wood and Metal Solid Aircraft Model, 1/48

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Excellent wooden straight-wing Cougar kit. In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type kits with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers issued blocks of wood and a plan - the infamous 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits. A few manufacturers, like Dyna-Model Products Company, attempted to provide true-scale static models with a high level of detail. Today Dyna-Models are legendary and sought after collectibles. When you first open the kit, you see a black and white cardboard display with all the needed jigs and templates for assembly. Underneath, the fuselage is 3-D carved (not just profile cut) and all other parts are rough cut or die cut. Includes a vacuform canopy, decals, full size and well-detailed plans and the crowning jewel, a box of 21 finished metal castings for super detailing your aircraft. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and plans/instructions. NOTE: instructions/plans are photocopies.

That includes the back of the gear box and the bogie wheels. All items work perfectly; the gear box turns the drive wheels. Quality of assembly is 'very good++.' There is no other assembly. Maircraft SE-5 Pursuit Scout, 1/48, S24

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work. This kit features a full size plan with instructions steps, fuselage that is about 80% cut, profile cut parts, printwood and a small bag of details. The model has not been started and is complete with all parts and plans.

GPM Riurik 1906 Russian Cruiser, 1/200, 160

Cardstock Paper Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Large scale, very highly detailed cardstock model. Beautifully color printed on quality cardstock. No painting required - just build! Features illustrated instructions showing detail, but you should be experienced with cardstock before purchasing this model. Never started; nothing has been cut out and all the sheets are in excellent condition. 100% complete. From Wikipedia: Rurik is unusual in that she was built by Vickers in Barrow in Furness, England. She was laid down in August 1905, launched on 4 November 1906, and completed in July 1909. The Russian Navy was not usually a customer of British shipyards. She was named in honour of Rurik, the semi-legendary founder of ancient Russia. Unlike her previous namesake, Rurik (1892), she has been described as one of the best armoured cruisers built, with advanced sprinkler protection for the magazines. She was designed by KA Tennison and AP Titov, and the contract was arranged by Basil Zaharoff. The ship had a prolonged work-up while defects were rectified. She was the flagship of the Baltic Fleet during World War I and saw much action, being damaged by mines on several occasions. The ship was worn out by 1918, she was hulked in 1922 and sold for scrapping in 1930.
