Airfix Short Sunderland Craftmaster, 1/72, 1-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

SALE! Hardbox is in investment-grade 'near mint' condition with as-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no tape or tags, no fading and no tears. There is only light edge wear. A merchant ship is sinking on the left and the crew is in lifeboats in the foreground on lower side panel. The Sunderland is preparing to rescue them, while the other Sunderland depth-charges the U-boat responsible for the sinking. The Sunderland's 21-year record with the RAF has made it a legend. Derived from the Empire Class Flying Boat Airliners, Sunderland IIIs had a top speed of 210 mph and an endurance of 12 hours. These qualities made the Sunderland a superb platform for North Sea and North Atlantic patrols, ASW and SAR. Crews usually loved the airplane; its large size afforded many airborne comforts that bomber or fighter crews could only dream of, such as bunk, a head and an area for food preparation. Kit features beaching gear, rotating turrets with elevating guns, movable control surfaces, external bomb load and rotating props. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Guillows De Havilland DH-80A Puss Moth - 24 inch Wingspan RC/CL/Rubber Powered Kit, 306

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

From the 1960s. Can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using modern servos and receivers. A very nice kit featuring die cut balsa parts, die-cut plywood firewall, completely finished wheels, wood propeller (should be plastic!), vacuform nose, rubber motor, hardware, clear window material, very large decal sheet, green colored tissue and excellent full size plans. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions, except NOTE there is a wood prop instead of the plastic one it should have. The PUss Moth was the first aircraft to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic OCean from east to west. Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

William H Low Co Two Horses and Boston Fire Department Style Harness - Wilo Line Fire Trucks, 1/24, F16

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Very rare. Likely from the 1940s. William H Low Co., of Braintree Mass., issued the 'Wilo Line' which included a superb series of antique commercial firefighting equipment. The scale is given as 1/2" (1/24). The kits were very advanced for the time and shared many of the pre-fabrication methods of Hudson Miniatures. These are the excellent horses, which are almost never seen. The animals are the correct scale for the equipment and come with a harness kit that used the Boston FD stand-by harness as the prototype. Includes detailed text instructions with excellent illustrations and even a painting guide for the harness equipment and the horse. The harness is still in the internal factory sealed bag and the horses are complete with instructions/plans. The kits in this line include Amoskeag Steamer, Hose Reel, Hose Wagon, Chemical Engine and others.

Maco Four Wheel Cab Over Engine Ladder Truck / Fire Engine, 1/24

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very, very rare. Dated 1946. This is a fully-scale, highly detailed wooden kit that measures just shy of two feet long when assembled. The box top photo does show the actual built model but was slightly retouched. The kit has a very high degree of prefabrication; all wood blocks are fully factory carved and labeled for identification, ladder frames are cut and drilled for rungs, numerous parts are cut to shape, wheels are completely formed and there are many smaller parts that are fully carved to final shape. Kit materials consists of hardwood & plywood parts, one sheet of printed balsa parts (fenders, I believe), hardwood stock, clear for windows and a few metal parts. There are amazingly detailed full size plans that include side, top, front and back elevations, detail drawings for the operating ladders and more and detailed text instructions as well. The plans are in 'excellent' condition with slight edge wear and slight yellowing as the only flaws. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts to the best of my knowledge. Such a kit is difficult to inventory past the larger, labeled parts but it certainly appears to be complete. Little is known about Maco Model Company beyond the fact that it was located in California and made this kit in 1946.

DML P-61A Black Widow, 1/72, 5016

The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. NOTE: the decals are microcracking. The box has never been subjected to moisture; it looks like the decals are factory flawed. Be prepared to use your own decals.

Model has a hull length of 13.5 inches. Very nicely detailed kit even includes rigging material and rigging instructions. Never started. Parts are still in factory sealed bags. Comet Aeronca K Struct-O-Speed - 15 inch Wingspan Flying Aircraft, Q3-29

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Early 1950s issue flying model in the 'Coca-Cola' bottle box. Comet 'Struct-O-Speed' was created to dramatically reduce building time and allow you to fly your model faster. It worked on both counts. All parts are die cut - you build a cabin aircraft, not a profile. There is no tissue covering. It comes with quality balso parts, factory formed wire landing gear and wheels, a plastic prop and thrust bearing, rubber motor and excellent instructions. Never started and 100% complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
