Airfix Auster 6 Antarctic - 2nd Logo Issue - Bagged, 1/72, 1416

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Good

Sold

Still factory staple sealed. 1950s issue bagged kit with header. Can be built with wheels, skis or floats. The Auster 6 Antarctic was a specially modified aircraft supplied to the Antarctic expedition. It has additional fuel capacity and more elaborate radio and DF equipment. The Auster was first introduced during WWII as an artillery observation and liaison aircraft. Since that time it was progressively developed for both military and civil use. The ability for short field operation and use with wheels, skis or floats made it very popular at the time.

O-Lin Ryan Navion / North American Aviation NA-143, 1/48, 507

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. This is a very hard to fine original O-lin kit in the small box and advertisement for O-lin cement on the top. Production first began in 1949 or just before. O-Lin (Olin) was founded by Paul Lindberg and a Mr. Olsen - hence the company name. Although a producer of flying models in the 1930s, O-lin produced some of the earliest American injection molded kits in the late 1940s. In 1950 the partnership may have ended, because all branding was changed to Lindberg and Paul Lindberg. Inside, the kit is as new and even includes early paper packing material. It is molded in high gloss dark red. I have seen many cases where Paul Lindberg used up the old O-Lin stock, combining different sets of instructions and decals resulting in odd combinations. While I admire his efficiency, it makes does make collecting these unique. This model has the O-Lin box, O-Lin parts and early 'Olin' decals (they say 'Olin' on the front and 'Lindberg Products' on the back!) and very early first logo Lindberg instructions. The kit has never been started and is inventoried complete with all parts, instructions and decals. The Navion was originally produced by North American Aviation as a high performance sport plane, but they sold them to the US Air Force as well. North American sold the rights to Ryan, who continued to successfully produce the aircraft.

Airfix Boeing 314 Pan Am Clipper - 'Dixie' or BOAC 'Berwick', 1/144, SK602

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Type three logo box. In the 1930s Pan Am was a household word in the USA for their romantic foreign routes and the glamorous 'China Clippers' that crossed the Pacific Ocean, stopping at such ports as Wake Island. Pan Am's attention soon turned to the Atlantic. Since non-stop service would be needed, a new aircraft was designed. The Boeing 314 was chosen. This huge flying boat started flying the Atlantic mail in 1939 with a trip over 26 hours long. Before the war, the 314 fleet flew the Pacific, Atlantic and other routes. The airliner was a palace compared to the cramped jets and limited service of today. The flight deck compared to the bridge of a ship and housed 6 crew. It was connected to the passenger cabin by a spiral staircase. The luxurious cabins were divided into 5 standard compartments, each seating 10 passengers, a dining salon for 14, a special compartment for four and a deluxe bridal suite. 74 could be carried on day trips and 40 when sleeping quarters for all passengers was required. Chefs prepared gourmet meals while passengers lounged in deeply cushioned wicker chairs and enjoyed a grand view of the scenery from about 5,000 feet. The age of the Clippers ended shortly after WWII when land planes could operate at much higher speeds than the flying boats. Has decals for both aircraft. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Comet Sparky - 32 inch Wingspan Wakefield-Style Balsa Flying Model Airplane, 3408-149

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare large flying model. 1970s reissue of the popular 1930s kit. These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of site, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, detailed full size plans, building instructions, hardware, wheels and canopy material (if required), tissue and propeller. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.
