Lindberg F-86D Sabre Jet Fighter - with First Logo, 1/48, 522-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Very rare first Lindberg issue with the 'script' logo. From the 1950s with dramatic Ray Gaedke artwork. Molded in high gloss silver and clear. Includes script logo decals and early 'rectangle' instructions which was common. The box was originally numbered 522-79 and has been over-stamped with a factory '98' for the price. Lindberg always used up any old stock and never seemed to waste any boxes, parts, decals or instructions. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The box shows better than VG++, but I have graded it as such because there are tears from the factory tape on the long sides. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Lindberg US Fleet Submarine (ex-Varney), 1/240, 703-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+++

Sold

Rare kit with a fascinating history. These molds are believed to be the oldest production plastic ship model in US modeling history. The kit started as the Varney Fleet Sub in the mid 1940s. It is widely regarded as the very first USA all-plastic construction kit of a military vessel. Varney produced an all plastic aircraft kit at the same time, the PT-17. It is the #1 candidate for the first plastic airplane kit in the USA. Varney was a famous manufacture of model trains, first O then a leader in HO models. The two new additions did not sell very well - remember, the Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' had yet to be issued, so the boom in modeling had not occurred. Varney soon sold the molds for the Fleet Sub and the PT-17 to O-Lin (along with the molds for a fantastic multi-media kit with a wooden hull and plastic fittings, the Varney PT Boat ). O-Lin was a joint venture by Paul Lindberg and Mr. Olsen. O-Lin successfully issued the PT Boat (the PT Boat was given an injection molded hull and deck), PT-17 Stearman and Fleet Sub but modified the molds for the Sub. The original Varney kit had a solid, one-piece black hull and gray fittings. O-Lin engineers created a two-piece hull that provided a hollow hull and made from the same shot of plastic as the fittings. The 'Lin' in O-Lin, Paul Lindberg, was already well known for his publication of articles and plans for flying model aircraft in some of the leading aviation publications in the 1940/50s. Mr. Lindberg soon bought out Mr. Olsen and began marketing the same O-Lin kits under 'The Lindberg Line.' One immediate change was the box art. O-Lin box art was usually two or three color and not very exciting. Near the end of O-Lin, the partners asked Ray Gaedke to provide some box art. The bright colors and vivid action were an immediate hit, and Paul Lindberg took this lesson and Mr. Gaedke's artwork along to the new 'Lindberg Line.' Lindberg continue to issue the old Varney kits with the O-Lin modifications. The kit has been issued by a resurgent Lindberg as late at 2009, likely making it the longest running plastic ship kit in US history. This model is in superb investment-grade condition. The Ray Gaedke box art has perfect color and gloss, four solid corners, no fading, tears or price tags or tag marks or rips. The box grades 'excellent+++' and has only a few light scuffs, edge and corner marks and two short pieces of clear tape on the two long sides. The model has not been started. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes 'excellent+' condition decals and 'near mint' condition instructions.

Lindberg F4U-5N Corsair, 1/48, 512

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Very rare kit from about 1954 or earlier. First Lindberg issue with no price suffix and borrowing the Ray Gaedke artwork that he did for the O-Lin issue. As a matter of fact, this box still says 'For Best Results Use O-Lin's Polystyrene Cement' This kit is in fantastic investment grade 'near mint' condition. The box has fantastic color and gloss, four solid corners, no price tags or tag marks and no tape other than the light marks from the factory tape. The only flaws are light general wear. Inside, the kit is factory-new, molded in a brilliant metallic high-gloss dark blue and clear. It has never been started. The small parts are still sealed in the factory 'krinkle' bag and all other parts have been inventoried present, along with beautiful flat decals and 'excellent' instructions.

Lindberg Lockheed F-94C Starfire, 1/48, 519-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++++

Sold

Late 1950s kit with dramatic Ray Gaedke artwork. Probably the second issue of this kit. Color and gloss are as new, there are no price tags or tag marks and all four corners are solid and original. Box displays 'near mint' but was graded 'excellent++++' due to clear tape on the sides once used to keep the box closed. Features two pilots with seats, clear canopy, raised panel detail, full landing gear (can easily be built with gear in the retracted position also), 'rocket' nose, display stand and colorful decals. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Lindberg Junkers Ju-87B Stuka, 1/48, 524-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+++

Sold

Late 1950s hardbox issue with Ray Gaedke box artwork. Please note that this is an early issue (probably the first, see below) with the white circle on the rudder hiding the swastika. However, the decals had the swastika, so the factory partially cut them from the sheet. As a historical note, Rau Gaedke painted the original artwork with swastikas, and the decals were made that way also. Lindberg quickly recognized that this was poor publicity and more importantly that the kit could not be sold in Europe. A box with the swastikas has yet to be found, so at this point we assume that the original artwork was modified just before the first issue - and that this is the first issue. The second (and much more common) issue had the white circle painted green like the rudder and the decal sheet was completely redesigned to exclude it also. Molded in correct gloss medium green and clear, with the futuristic Lindberg 'V' shaped clear stand. For it's time, this was an excellent kit with fine panel and rivet detail. Features crew of two and seats, separately molded rudder and flap/ailerons, four small wing load bombs and a center bomb with 'swing arm' so that it would clear the prop in a dive. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Thanks to Dusty Rhodes for this information: The markings with this model, A5+HL, are from a -B2 (Trop.) captured intact in North Africa, 1941 and shipped to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. It is still there today (2020). This may very well be the aircraft that Lindberg Skokie-based designers examined as a basis for this model.

Revell The Visible V8 Transparent Motorized Operating Auto Engine - (ex-Renwal), 1/4, H902

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

1977 issue. This model is a very early Revell issue shortly after the Renwal molds were purchased. Because of that, it is the only time that Revell issued the kit exactly as Renwal did. The model is motorized and features over 100 moving parts. It is molded in clear, red, black and silver. When built, all major internal parts move via electric motor and spark plugs (red lights) flash in time. This kit has never been started. All plastic parts but the black ones still in the factory sealed bags. The black parts had a tear in the bag, so I opened them, inventoried them complete and put them in a new bag. Includes 'How An Automobile Engine Works' book (ex-Renwal book) and full instructions.

Bandai Douglas SBD-4 Dauntless - US Navy, 1/48, 8502-300

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

Sold

Early issue with great box art. Kit is actually a close copy of the nice Monogram SBD with some added features such as moving ailerons, rudder and elevator, operating dive brakes, dropping center bomb, retracting/extending landing gear, four piece canopy and the rear machine gun elevates and rotates. There is a full color painting guide on the center stapled parts retainer cardboard. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. Box is graded low because there is clear tape and masking tape on it as well as general wear.

Airfix Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S.2B - RAF 208 Sq Lossiemouth 1988 or 12th Sq Lossiemouth 1985, 1/72, 03055

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

From 1992 and has 78 parts. Features very fine raised panel lines, 'good' cockpit detail, optional drop tanks, Radar Martel, T.V. Martel and Sea Eagle missiles, two piece canopy and extensive paint guide and excellent decals for the two aircraft listed. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The Buccaneer was the world's first purpose designed low level 'below the radar' bomber. Low level strike aircraft have a shorter airframe life limit due to the stresses of low level flying, so the Buccaneer was designed to be very strong and even had many sub-assemblies milled from solid metal.
