ITC German Graf Spee Pocket Battleship Heavy Cruiser, 1/350, 3700-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Original issue in superb 'near mint' investment-grade condition. The box has factory-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no repairs, no fading, tags or tape (other than the factory sealing tape) and no torn/missing litho. The only flaw is very light surface wear. Large 1/350 scale full hull kit. ITC issued this kit in 1961 and capitalized off the success of the movie about the Spee; however, ITC discontinued all larger plastic models in 1962 which makes this kit hard to find. Many sources list this model as 1/350; it may be 1/366 depending on several finer factors. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals/stickers and instructions.

Hobbyboss SMS Seydlitz Battle Cruiser With Scaledecks Wooden Deck, 1/350, 86510

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Includes the factory sealed Scaledecks.com laser cut, real wood deck for this kit. The actual model is from completely new molds. It is very highly detailed and finely molded. Includes three large frets of PE details including railings. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. SMS Sydlitzs played a very active part in the Kaiser's WWI Navy and has the distinction of very likely being the world's most heavily damaged ship to make it home on her own power. German WWI ships were tough to sink, but this has been incorrectly attributed only to the design. Indeed, the designs were effective in resisting catastrophic events (like magazines explosions), but the German damage control was truly superior and efficient, with and emphasis- above all else -of keeping the ship afloat. While that sounds rather obvious, very often other factors were allowed to interfere.

Lindberg Sea Witch Clipper Sailing Ship (ex-Marx), 1/96, 813

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. 1979 issue that used the original Marx Sea Witch/Swordfish molds. A beautiful and well detailed model with over 500 parts that measures 33 inches long when assembled. The world's largest toy manufacture, Louis Marx, spared no expense in this early 1950s entry into the growing field of plastic models. The model claims to the first time that anyone could build a museum-quality large ship at home. The claim is correct since the kit pre-dates the Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark. Full hull kit features complete deck fittings, extensive standing and running rigging instructions, optional billowing sails (in 'excellent' condition'), crew members, rigging thread and metal chain. It is usually molded in several colors (I can't confirm that as it is still sealed) just like the original Marx issue.

Large, well designed model. It is based on the prototype in Sterling, Colorado. Features hardwood lumber and numerous metal castings, some quite large. Revell 1910 International Auto Wagon Highway Pioneers - US Antique Series, 1/32, H62-89

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM+

Sold

Original issue dated 1954 in rare investment-grade 'near mint+' condition inside and out. The US Antique series was the first one to have real box art for the exact kit inside. This kit is from old hobby shop stock and has never been sold retail until now. Inside the box, it has not been started. All the parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. Includes instructions. This is from the issues produced with Gowland & Gowland as it carries their 'balloon' logo on the box top a the lower right. Not long after this, the Gowland logo would disappear completely, leaving only the Revell logo. It is also worth noting that this is one of the first non-generic Highway Pioneers boxes. Earlier boxes were all the same, with the kit number and car stamped on the side, usually with a red or black rubber stamp. This box is completely dedicated to the Auto Wagon kit, and even has advertisements for very early Pre-S issue Revell 1954 ship and aircraft kits on the long sides. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.
