Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Mint

Sold

Still factory sealed and in amazing investment-grade condition. Big scale kit with a 31 3/8 inch wingspan. Designed for RC, CO2, free flight, control line or non-flying detailed scale kit. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s.

Lindberg Junkers Ju-87B Stuka, 1/48, 524-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Late 1950s hardbox issue with Ray Gaedke box artwork. Please note that this is an early issue (probably the first, see below) with the white circle on the rudder hiding the swastika. However, the decals had the swastika, so the factory partially cut them from the sheet. As a historical note, Rau Gaedke painted the original artwork with swastikas, and the decals were made that way also. Lindberg quickly recognized that this was poor publicity and more importantly that the kit could not be sold in Europe. A box with the swastikas has yet to be found, so at this point we assume that the original artwork was modified just before the first issue - and that this is the first issue. The second (and much more common) issue had the white circle painted green like the rudder and the decal sheet was completely redesigned to exclude it also. Molded in correct gloss medium green and clear, with the futuristic Lindberg 'V' shaped clear stand. For it's time, this was an excellent kit with fine panel and rivet detail. Features crew of two and seats, separately molded rudder and flap/ailerons, four small wing load bombs and a center bomb with 'swing arm' so that it would clear the prop in a dive. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Thanks to Dusty Rhodes for this information: The markings with this model, A5+HL, are from a -B2 (Trop.) captured intact in North Africa, 1941 and shipped to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. It is still there today (2020). This may very well be the aircraft that Lindberg Skokie-based designers examined as a basis for this model.

Revell Battle of Midway Famous Air Battle Scene #2 - Complete Diorama with F4F Wildcat and Zero, 1/72, H662

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

Sold

Hard-to-find kit. Of the three Revell 'Famous Air Battle Scenes' this is my favorite because they really went to a great deal of trouble to create a Yorktown-class carrier setting for the diorama. Kit includes all of the full color, heavy cardstock setting including foreground deck gallery, etc. Also includes a 1/72 scale F4F Wildcat with pilot and two ground crew and a Zero with pilot and special 'in flight' display stand. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the box looks better than 'fair+' but is graded as such because the left short panel has heavy damage. In 1976 Revell released three 'Famous Air Battle Scene' diorama kits featuring WWII aircraft. Kit #1 was H661 'Battle of Berlin', #2 was H662 'Battle of Midway' and #3 was H663 'Battle of Britain'.
