Life-Like Monitor and Merrimac - From ex Pyro Molds, 09257

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

1960s release from ex-Pyro molds. The Monitor is 10 inches long and the Merrimac is 11 inches long when built. These kits have never been started. They are both inventoried complete with all parts and instructions present. These are from the superior detail Pyro molds and are not the lower detail Lindberg releases. Monitor and Merrimac are the two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the St. James. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862.

Jo-Han 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car, 1/25, GC-300

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc

Sold

Still factory sealed but the seal has shrunk and drawn the box top slightly concave as shown. Chrysler had long labored to produce an efficient turbine for automobile use. The fourth such engine operated on almost any fuel oil- jet fuel, vegetable oil or tequila and turned 60,000 rpms developing 130 bhp. With this engine Chrysler felt certain that it was time to produce a practical test car, and the Turbine was designed. 55 were produced and 50 given to the public to test. The engine was simple - it had 60 moving parts instead of the usual 300 in a combustion engine - and naturally had no points or distributor. In practice, the car proved reliable and averaged only 4% downtime total - a low number for such a new application of technology. The main drawbacks were NO (nitrogen oxides), high exhaust temperatures, and poor fuel consumption of about 17 mpg. Chrysler was able to fix the last two, but the first one helped finish the program. In the future, Chrysler engineers would solve the NO problem. Kit features opening hood, detailed engine and compartment, opening trunk, whitewall tires, opening doors, steerable wheels, coupe (2 door) body with opening doors, front seats that fold forward, detailed interior and full underside detail.

Mid 1960s issue in amazing, investment-grade "Mint" condition. As you know, I always hesitate to use the word 'mint' but this box has perfect color and gloss and no more wear than it left the assembly line with. Aurora Messerschmitt Me-109 - (Bf-109), 1/48, 55-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Early 1960s hardbox is in wonderful condition. The colors and gloss are factory-new new and the box has four perfect corners, no repairs or price tags, no fading or stains and no tears or missing litho. The is a tiny bit of corner edge wear at the top left and a shallow crease at the upper right that did not even show up in the photo. There are small pieces of clear tape at the center of the long sides, but you can carefully remove this with lighter fluid. This issue is dated 1960 but the 100 cent price extension and no 'Famous Fighters' in the sunburst logo dates it from the mid 1960s. It is correctly molded in a deep burgundy and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The decals are in amazing 'near mint++' condition and the instructions are 'near mint.'

Aurora Albatross CIII - (Albatros C.III / C-III), 1/48, 142-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed and in amazing investment-grade 'Near Mint' condition. Dated 1963 but is actually a mid 60s issue due to the lack of 'Famous Fighters' in the border of the box side logos. This is just one of the many incredibly successful 1/48 scale WWI aircraft kits from Aurora. A few years after settling into the new plant at West Hempstead, one of the the major projects was to launch this line in 1956. New subjects were added as late as the early 1960s. The line was so successful that many were selling right up until the end of Aurora in 1976.
