ZTS THREE Il-2 / Il-2M3 And TWO Lotnia Spitfire IX UTI, 1/72, S-03

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

SALE!! Includes all five model kits. One Lotnia Spitfire IX UTI kit is factory sealed. The other one is open but has never been started and is complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The IL-2 models have NOT been inventoried and are sold as is - they are from a very picky modeler who most parts off the trees. Of his kits that I did inventory, over 95% were 100% complete. But since these parts are all loose and there is very minor, "professional" quality assembly (like to the cockpit tub), I did not inventory them and am selling them AS-IS, hence the low price. The ZTS IL-2 is a nicely molded older kit with very fine raised panel lines, cockpit detail and parts for either version. Includes decals and paint guide for 5 aircraft- Polish Air Force and 4 Soviet Air Force machines.

Hasegawa Soya Antarctica Observation 1st Corps - With (2) Scale Tracked Snow Cars, 1/350, 40064

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

Built in Japan 1936-38 on a Soviet contract, Soya's delivery was canceled due to tension between the Empire and the USSR. Purchased by the IJN in 1939, Soya survived multiple US and British attacks in WW II, with damage and crew losses. Postwar, the vessel helped to repatriate refugees from Japanese territory seized and occupied by the USSR. Postwar, Soya enjoyed a long career as an ice breaker and rescue ship. In 1959, news outlets around the world reported Soya's rescue of two huskie dogs after severe weather had forced an earlier expedition to leave them behind. She is now a museum ship, restored to her original, 'as launched' commercial freighter configuration. The long career of this ship exemplifies the recovery and resurgence of the spirit of modern Japan. This model is from all new molds and does justice to this historic vessel. Features full-hull, 294 pieces, all deck fittings, float plane, helicopter and 2 metal snow cars. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.

Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.
