Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Sold

Still factory sealed. From Ex-Pyro molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of their kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. In some cases, the specific car and owner is on the box. Features detailed chassis, full interior and engine, removable hood and more. Molded in colored plastic, clear, chrome plate and with rubber tires.

Hasegawa Nakajima Ki-43 II Late Version Hayabusa Oscar Motorized, 1/48, SP248

Aurora Lockheed AH-56A Cheyenne 'Copter, 1/72, 502

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

1972 'Big A' Canadian issue. Nicely molded for that time with recessed panel lines and good detail. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. The box shows better than 'Fair' but is graded that low because there is clear tape, creases and tears on the other three sides. This is a kit from Aurora's excellent efforts of the late 1960s/early 1970s. By the 1960s Aurora knew that it's old molds were outclassed. By the late 60s they were cutting a new series of molds including several ships and helicopters. The molds were of high quality, but it was too few kits and too late for their reputation.

Dyna-Model Supermarine Spitfire Wood and Metal Model Airplane, 1/48

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

In the 1930s and 1940s, most modelers built the flying stick and tissue type kits with rubber, co2 or gas power. But there were a small but measurable percent that built solid aircraft display models of great detail. This required great skill worthy of the shipbuilders of old, especially considering the limited offerings. Many manufacturers issued blocks of wood and a plan - the famous (or infamous) 'Make Wood Look Like Plane' kits. A few manufacturers, like Dyna-Model Products Company, attempted to provide true-scale static models with a high level of detail. Today Dyna-Models are legendary and sought after collectibles. When you first open the kit, you see a black and white cardboard display with all the needed jigs and templates for assembly. Underneath, the fuselage is rough carved (not just profile cut) and all other parts are rough cut or die cut. Includes clear canopy, color decals, full size and well-detailed plans and the crowning jewel, a box of finished metal castings for super detailing your aircraft. The model has not been started. NOTE: missing antenna and pitot tube; I have included the Monogram plastic 1/48 (same scale) antenna and pitot. Otherwise inventoried with all other parts, decals and instructions present.

The model has not been started. The parts have been inventoried 100% complete with all paperwork included. Plans are in 'excellent' condition. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911) and Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around this time. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - they were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream-to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business- Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's Great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
