Lindberg Nautilus Atomic Submarine by Paul Lindberg, 704

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good++

Sold

Rare first issue hardbox with script Lindberg logo. In the 1930s, Paul Lindberg was designing, building and flying stick and tissue aircraft like so many other men and boys of the time. His plans appear in Popular Aviation magazine and he made a good name for himself. When injection molding showed the way to increased kits sales in the late 1940s/early 1950s, he quickly teamed up with Mr. Olsen to create 'O-lin' models. Ray Gaedke was one the early artists for O-lin. In the early 1950s Paul Lindberg had control and had his name as the logo. The first logo is the one on this kit - 'Lindberg' in script with 'Products' arched across the top and 'Incorporated' arched across the bottom to create a broken circle around the script. Ray Gaedke continued his bold and colorful artwork for Lindberg, such as the box painting for the Nautilus here. The Nautilus appears to be the first sea vessel that Lindberg cut it's own molds for - the Chris Craft Express Cruiser, PT Boat, LST and Fleet Submarine (Ex-Varney) were done by O-lin. The model is an interesting work of fact and fiction - it includes a deck gun and what looks like a Regulus II missile for the deck! The scale is not known but it measures about 12 inches long when assembled. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Revell HMS Campbeltown, 1/240, 2502

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Advent issue. Large scale and highly detailed kit of the historic four-pipe destroyer. On March 8, 1942, the Campbeltown sailed up the Loire River. Her mission was to destroy the Normandie Drydock, a possible haven for the Tirpitz which was holed up on Norway at this time. The Campbeltown was disguised as a German warship and the bow was packed with 8500 lbs of high explosive depth charges. Under a RAF diversion, Campbeltown fought her way up the river and rammed the dock doors at full speed. Charges at the stern sank the back of the ship and she was wedged in the dock. During a German inspection 8 hours later, the charges went off, scattering parts of the ship up to one mile away. The dock was rendered useless to the Tirpitz, who now had to stay in Norway. Never started. NOTE: missing rudder. Inventoried with all other parts, decals, flag sheet and instructions.
