NOTE: these models have 'professional' quality subassembly as follows: LA-7 - Seat to floor; bomb 1/2s built. Mustang Mk.II- seat assembled to fuselage half. Stuka kit #1- cockpit tub built, retainer glued to prop. Stuka #2- wing 1/2s and gun pod halves assembled; cockpit tub built and glued to fuselage 1/2. Missing one long gun barrel. Typhoon #1- radiator to nose, retainer to prop. Typhoon #2- same, plus seat to fuselage half; wing halves assembled (but not glued to fuselage). The six aircraft have been inventoried and are complete except for what is mentioned above and include decals and instructions, but NOTE: the display stands are missing. Vacuform kits are only recommended for modelers who are experienced with this type of model. Special skills and scratch building experience are required. Still factory sealed; there is a seal split on the left short side. Very large and high quality kit with 57 9/16 inch wingspan. Designed for RC and .40 to .56 size engines, but easily converted to electric power. Features top grade die cut and numbered balsa parts, step by step full size plans with instructions, scale decals, linkage hardware, vacuform cowl, wheel pants, strut fairings, formed aluminum landing struts and much more. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits and they are still highly popular to this day.

Dated 1966. Full hull kit with very good molded detail, pre-molded ratlines, detailed deck, billowing sails and display stand. Measures just over 9.5 inches inches long when assembled. Molded in swirl wood tan and off-white. The box drawing serves as a rigging diagram. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. The British Bomb Ketch was often called 'a ship without a foremast'. A heavily padded well was built into the deck in place of the usual foremast. A heavy mortar was tied down into this well. These ships were used to bombard shore installations that smaller cannons had no effect on. The bombs weight about 200 pounds as compared to the usual 48 pounds from the largest naval guns of the time. The entire ship was aimed to fire the mortar. The mortar first used in this type vessel was used until the second world war with very little change in design except for the the controls and firing mechanism. This is one of the 'intermediate' line of Pyro ship kits, which in 1966 Pyro called '$1.00 Models'. All were roughly the same size and were a significant increase in detail from the '50 Cent Models'. Kits in the $1.00 line in '66 included the Skipjack, Cutty Sark, Charles W. Morgan, HMS Bounty, HMS Ark Royal, USS Constellation, British Bomb Ketch, Chinese War Junk, Elsie - Gloucester Fisherman, Burma River Pirate, Racing Yawl, Polynesian Outrigger and others. 50 Cent kits in 1966 included the Mayflower, Barbary Pirate, USS Constitution, Santa Maria, Golden Hind, Half Moon, Bon Homme Richard, Brig of War, HMS Victory, Flying Cloud, Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria and others.

Classic, large-scale 'Action Model' 1966 issue in the famous 'Blue Box.' Most likely the third issue of this kit. Very well molded kit with excellent detail and numerous action features. Canopy opens and closes to show highly detailed cockpit. Tiny levers under the wings drop two bombs. Knob on the bottom rotates and extends/retracts main gear and tail wheel; all gear doors including tail wheel open and close automatically with the gear. Not only do these features sound great, but they work. My built kit was assembled in 1979 and functions like new! The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions.
