KP Letov S-328 Floatplane - (S.328), 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$14

Very attractive 1930s float plane. Contains markings for Czech Air Force. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. And thank you to Ales Pakosta for the following information- The actual use of the S-328 floatplane was quite unique. It was used as a training target tug plane during the Czechoslovak Anti-Aircraft Artillery maneuvers in contemporary Yugoslavia, in the Boka Kotorska (Bay of Kotor, now in Montenegro). In fact, it was not for naval artillery training but was done in this way so that shells fired from shore fell into the sea to prevent damage on the land. As there was no appropriate airfield nearby, the target tug aircraft had to operate from the sea surface. As a result, about three aircraft were modified for this task from land-based light bomber-scout biplane. They replaced the classic fixed undercarriage with a pair of floats purchased from the British Short company. The seaplanes remained in use for a several years in this special role. The land-based versions of the S-328 (which can be built from the kit as well) were very popular in the Czechoslovak Air force in the mid thirties; many were seized by Luftwaffe in 1939. The last known combat use of these machines came in 1944 during the Slovakian National Uprising, when their pilots had to fight such planes as Messerschmidt Bf109G.

Cleveland Lockheed P-38 Lightning - 38.75 Inch Wingspan Balsa Flying Model Airplane, 1/16, SF-85

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

$85

Rare 'Big Box' issue of this Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features numerous sheets of very high quality balsa printwood, factory cut strip wood and spars, drilled and recessed engine front nacelles, fully formed nose and main wheels, all required balsa blocks, dowels for gear struts, other stock material as required, clear canopy material, two sheets of color US insignia, hardwood dual thrust button kit, covering material and CD's famous highest quality plans. The model has not been started. The parts are inventoried complete with all paperwork included. There is brown packing tape on the box top as shown. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called 'The Aviation Craze' that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest operating single-owner model airplane supply business, called Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviations great Recruiter, Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Aurora Russian Nuclear Powered Bomber - (M-50/M-52 Bounder), 1/182, 128-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$179

1959 one-and-only release with colorful Jo Kotula artwork. This kit bears much resemblance to the 'Bounder' bomber. In the late 1950s, a drawing of the Bounder appeared in a popular aviation magazine; it is widely assumed that Aurora made the kit from that drawing. Aurora's push to always be first with new subject matter resulted in some errors in judgment which resulted in some incredibly rare kits like this one. Molded in the correct gloss light gray & clear. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. The decals intact, fairly flat (with one corner starting to curl) and the normal yellowing. The instructions are in 'excellent++ condition with light yellowing as the only flaw. The box top is solid with great color and gloss, no repairs, no price tags or tape (or marks from either), no rips, tears or fading but it has edge wear and general wear as shown.

Just when you think you have Aurora's kit history figured out, they throw you another curve ball! Molded in the correct glossy dark green and black. Decals and instructions are correct for the first issue as well. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.
