Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Frog Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress - 'Suzy Q' 93rd BS 19th BG Pacific Early 1942 / 'Yankee Doodle' 97th BG 8th AF 1942, 1/72, F213

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Frog is well known for making realistic, detailed models at a time when most manufacturers were not making kits strictly to scale and embellishing kits with oversized rivets. Frog, on the other hand, strived for scale fidelity and almost never showed rivet detail. This B-17E is no exception and is a fine kit that would built to a realistic display model. Decals are included for two historical aircraft - Suzy-Q, a very early Pacific Theatre aircraft from 1942 flown by Captain Felix Hardison USAAC and Yankee Doodle, the ship that General Ira C. Eaker flew in as an observer during the 8th Air Forces first bombing mission against the railway marshalling yards at Sottenville, near Rouen France on August 17, 1942. The kit is well molded with fine raised panel lines and features a full crew, optional position landing gear and a large display stand, elevating tail guns, rotating and elevating top and belly turrets with the blocking panel for Suzy-Q, opening bomb bay doors and bomb load and more. Never started. Factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Marlin first cut the molds in 1952 and issued the six original American Firefighters (Chemical and Ladder, Steamer, Hook and Ladder, Water Tower, Aerial Ladder and Hose Reel) in 1952. Revell signed a marketing agreement with Marlin in 1953. Five of the kit were released with the Revell name and marketing name 'Collectors Kits, Closter N.J.' Revell added the horse parts as they were not originally part of the Marlin issues. The kits made excellent display pieces, but they never caught the imagination of young men like jet aircraft did. The five molds were shipped to Brazil; however Kikoler (Revell Brazil's Distributor) only issued three them. After the production run, they were shipped back to the USA but the molds were lost at sea.
