Guillow's founder, Paul K. Guillow, was a WWI naval aviator. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

KVZ Tupolev Tu-134 Interflug ' Crusty', 1/199

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

Rare kit of this Soviet Transport nicknamed 'Crusty' by NATO. The Tu-134 is a design similar to the DC-9 and has seen widespread and successful service. It is perhaps most famous (or infamous) for the death of Mozambican president in 1986. The Tu-134 was a gift from the Soviets. When returning from the meeting, the aircraft crashed into mountains inside South Africa. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag or inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. KVZ was a Eastern German manufacturer of kits during the Cold War. They made a fascinating range of civil and military subjects. If it were not for their efforts, there would be many 'Iron Curtain' subjects (especially civil) that we would never have injection molded kits of.

Sterling Fokker D-8 (D-VIII) - 21 inch Wingspan for RC - Drops Twin Bombs in Flight, A16-198

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

21 inch wingspan kit for RC, free flight or control line. Includes innovative system for automatically dropping twin bombs in flight. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they featured color decals, high-grade die cut balsa, vacuform plastic detail parts, plastic wheels (if required), finished wire landing gear, rubber motor and plastic prop, full size plans with instruction details and full instructions for conversion to RC or control line. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.
