Revell Lockheed ASW P-3A Orion - US Navy VP-8, 1/115, H163

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

1973 issue from Kikoler Revell Brazil. The flaws in the Lockheed Electra ensured that it had a short service life as an airliner. But the sound design was modified into one of the most successful and long serving of all ASW aircraft - the Orion. Revell seized upon this opportunity to recoup some of the money sunk into the Electra molds. The molds were modified to make this kit, the "A" version of the venerable patrol aircraft. (please see the article about the mold conversion this on this website.) Features optional position landing gear and loading door and movable wheels and props.

ITC SS France (Norway) French Line - Ocean Liner, 1/450, 3600-4-500

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Very rare. First and only issue from 1963; very shortly after this kit was issued, ITC discontinued all plastic kit production. This is a large 1/450 scale kit of the SS France, one of the most beautiful ocean liners of all time. Very good detail for the time. Features full hull that is 24.75 inches long, 124 parts, 2 winged funnels, 3 anchors, 4 propellers, 2 launches, 20 lifeboats, 2 whaleboats, detailed mast, kingposts and superstructure. The kit is molded in black (hull) , red (funnels and fittings) and ivory (promenade and superstructure) to minimize painting like in the ITC United States. Kit also includes a beautiful letter (with a color print of the France on the letterhead) from Georges Croisile, the Commandant of the French Line, introducing the kit and welcoming you onboard the real France one day. The kit has never been started. The red parts and most ivory parts are still sealed in the factory bags. In this issue, the lifeboats came in an envelope. The parts that are not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including four metal shafts, the flag sheet, decals, rigging lines and instructions. NOTE: the davits are molded as one part with the main lifeboats. Three are broken; two are present and one is missing. The hull had cracks and breaks are the stern. The repair is strong and done correctly from the inside, so there is no visible glue outside. See photos for details. The repair can be hard to see, so I took close ups in harsh light.

The Skysweeper was a 45 round-per-minute anti-aircraft gun system that was teamed with the Nike Ajax in the late 1950s/early 1960s to defend America against Soviet Attack. The gun system was radar controlled and fully mobile. It could be set up on any terrain and ready to fire in 2 minutes. The unit was considered very advanced and complex at the time; it took army maintenance crews 37 weeks each to train on the system at Aberdeen.

Gowland & Gowland USS Constitution Shipyard Ships in Miniature

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Sold

Rare, early, small scale ship kit from 1952. Very nicely detailed and molded, especially for that era. Includes sails, molded sea display base and clear sheet plastic with the delicately printed ratlines. The scale is not given, but the sea base measures 6.5"x2" and the ship is approximately 5 inches long. Includes beautiful color instructions with the ship history, illustrations of assembly, how to set the sails and photos for rigging. This kit has never been started and is still in the original 'krinkle' bag. The bag has typical splitting, so it has been placed inside a zip-lock bag so that no parts will be lost. Includes instructions. The box sides illustrates and names the 10 kits of this line. All were available in regular (such as this kit) or 'Ship In A Bottle' versions. the 'Bottle' was also available separately. The entire set consists of the Santa Maria 1492, Golden Hind 1588, Mayflower 1620, Bon Homme Richard 1779, SS Savannah 1819, The Flying Cloud 1849, Charles W. Morgan 1850, Gertrude L. Thebaud 1929, Frigate Constitution 1797 and US Revenue cutter 1849. It appears that Gowland & Gowland has not received the credit that it deserves in the plastic kit revolution that took America by storm in the early 1950s. Gowland developed the first all plastic car made in the USA in 1950, the 1911 Maxwell. Even more interesting is that Kevin and Jack Gowland developed the 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951 which heralded the future for the American Hobby Industry. The reason that Gowland's name is not in the fore-front of model history is that Precision Specialties (later Revell) did the distribution for Gowland.
