Revell Medicine Wagon - Miniature Masterpiece, 1/48, H521-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Rare 1955 issue. The box has excellent color and gloss, four solid corners and no fading, tears or price tags. The flaws are very light wear, the remains of factory tape on one long side and very light age spotting. Highly detailed model includes medicine wagon with detailed suspension and open rear platform, colorful decals for Doctor Brown's Snake Oil, two horses, Dr. Brown, one entertainer, and Indian, local man and a local woman with her young boy and girl. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lew Glaser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although the molds were made at Adams and it had the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. Originally there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954 and in that year and the next, kits were labeled 'Revell' with a 'Miniature Masterpiece' label on the box top also.

Minicraft 1901 De Dion Bouton Automobile - (ex Entex / Bandai / Union), 1/16, 11206

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG++

Sold

Still factory sealed. This is a large-scale model with excellent detail. It features steerable front wheels, full suspension, detailed undercarriage and full interior. In 1901, Count Albert de Dion and M. George Bouton produced a remarkable engine that produced 3/4 horsepower at 1800 rpm. This was double the speed of the then famous Daimler 'High Speed' engine. Upon hearing of the engine, Daimler's engine engineer said that the motor would not last but 1/2 the time of a 500 HP engine. However, many of the de Dions are still running today. At first, de Dion Bouton used the engine for tricycles (which were popular at the time) and sold the engine to other manufacturers. The company then decided to make the first "people's car" that was affordable and easy to drive - the Type G was the result. It was powered by a water cooled engine of 4.5 HP and used a constant mesh gear system and famous 'de Dion axle', which was still used by sports cars into the 1970s. The car had a top speed of 26 MPH.

Cleveland Curtiss P-40C Tomahawk - Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/16, SF-77

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. The kit came from a long time collector of 1930s and 1940s models and is in exceptional condition. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, highest quality plans, all parts required for assembly and decals (if issued with the kit). The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business - Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.
