Box art is by Locher, who did a great deal of the Monogram box artwork also. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with all die cut parts, 'Tube-O-Matic' fuselage construction and 'Rugged Super X Simplified Non-Warping Wing' construction, colorful insignia, detailed full size plans, building instructions, wheels, hardware, tissue and propeller. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.

The kit is usually molded in dark red (below the waterline parts), dark gray (above waterline parts) and wood tan (decking), but I cannot confirm because it is factory sealed.

Very rare first hardbox issue. Nicely molded and detailed kit for that time. The model can be built stock or with any combination of options. Molded in ivory, clear, red-tinted clear, chrome plate, the correct real rubber white whitewall tires and correct early 'thick' metal axles and metal body screws. The kit has not been started. The stock version is complete but NOTE: missing some custom parts. The only custom parts present are fender skirts, aerial (single or dual), spotlights, fender mirrors and moon disk hubcaps. Missing all other custom parts, decals and instructions. This is a 'parts only' and an ideal builder.

Rare. One of only 8 ship kits ever issued by LS. The original kit dated from the 1960s; this may be the second issue and appears to be from the early 1970s. Operating model can be powered by a rubber motor which is included or the 'power egg' that attaches to the underside (not included). It appears to have a sort of automatic diving system - the diving planes are shown to move and there are clearly buoyancy chambers and free flood areas in the hull. Activation of the rubber motor is by the periscope. Kit is nicely done and includes two torpedoes that mount on the lower sides. Inside, the kit is like new. It has not been started. All small parts are still in the factory sealed bag, the metal parts, glue and rubber band are in a smaller sealed bag. The upper hull (molded in dark gray) was never factory sealed. Other parts are molded in red and dark gray. The kit has never been started. Decals and instructions are included; the instructions are on the inside of the box top.

Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. NOTE: the box lists this kit as 1/200 scale. However, if the Golden Hind was 121 feet long, the scale should be very close to 1/107.
