The handsome 1930s water tower measures 6 inches tall when assembled; it has a wooden lower structure and the round top water tank is 3 inches in diameter and has a pitched roof. The part are factory cut and there is a high degree of pre-fabrication for that time. Includes full size plans with assembly steps illustrated. Complete and never started. The Crossing Shanty is the manned small structure with the crossing guards. Features wood and factory-decorated (printed) cardstock parts that eliminate painting and are die-cut for easy assembly and includes clear window material with printed frames and mullions. Includes full size plans with illustrated assembly notes. Never started and complete. Please NOTE that the plans/instructions are complete but have many tears from age, typical of the paper that Ideal used to print them on. The Ideal 'Tiny Town' series was a big step forward in pre-fabrication for early model train builders. It was a very large line consisting of a'Residential' line (Dutch Colonial, Brick House, New England Mansion, Old English, California Bungalow, Frame House, Cape Cod Bungalow, Church School, Barn & Outbuildings, Farm House, 4 Story Apt. & Landscape Moss), 'Industrial' (Oil Storage Depot, Gas Station, Wayside Diner, Factory, Block of Stores, Mine Building, Bank, Movie House & Meat Packing Plant) and 'Railroad (Interlocking Tower, Suburban Station, Flag Stop Station, Water Tank, Crossing Gate & Shanty, Freight Station, Dummy Block Signals, Signal Bridge, Combination Station, Coaling Station, Two-Track Truss Bridge, Roundhouse and Railroad Terminal). Ideal Aeroplane & Supply started in 1911 and was known for it's extensive line of ship kits in all sizes & scales and was also one of the earliest and largest flying model airplane producers. Why did Ideal use 1/96 scale? Because HO stands for "Half of O Scale" which would have been 1/96. Some early model railroad books recommended using 1/8' = 1 ft. in building structures for an HO layout. However, HO was developed in Europe, where they used 7mm=1 foot. That makes O scale work out to 1/43, which is why you see so many European car kits in 1/43 scale. It's also why HO is 1/87 instead of 1/96.
