Fred Megow was a famous pioneer in the model aircraft field from the late 1920s and a very early manufacture for HO scale trains in the 1930s. His product lines of semi-prefabricated, solid and stick and tissue kits won him national and extensive world wide distribution - possibly the first modern model manufacture to achieve this. His fascinating story involves trying novel and untested marketing ideas in the Great Depression, followed my explosive world-wide growth. Mr. Megow was a true pioneer in the early days of modeling and a leader in the low price field so that every boy could afford a kit during those difficult times. Megow also produced scale operating train and trackside kits, ship models (large and small) and automotive subjects. Megow's catalogs claim that they were pioneers in HO scale, and there is documentation to support this fact. Megow's early HO train kits served not only to promote this now-popular scale nationally, but were among the very first train kits. Model train kits were responsible for the explosion in model railroad popularity in the late 1930s - please see the article in this website about these kits.

Includes parts for the '500 or the '501 and markings for the two aircraft listed. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The D-500 was the result of Programme C-1 in 1932 that was destined to replace the obsolete French fighter fleet. In November of 1933 the D-500 was chosen from the competitors, and this established the reputation of the Dewoitine company. The D-500 was made entirely of metal and fitted with a Hispano-Suiza 12 cylinder engine and a turbo-compressor. It was armed with 2 Vickers machine guns on the cowling and 2 Darne machine guns on the wings. The D-501 was a variant of the D-500 that arried a motorized cannon. The HS-59 20mm cannon and the 2 Mac 34 nacelles replaced the weapons of the '500. The propeller was also changed and lost the streamlined nose cone. Total production of both types was 257 aircraft. At the start of WWII, 43 D-501 fighters were still in front-line service.

Charmore Mig-15 - Trail Blazers of Transportation, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$64

Very rare kit for the advanced collector. Charmore was located at 126 Market Street in Paterson, New Jersey. They issued a small line of kits in the early 1950s, at the dawn of US plastic kit production. All boxes have the same art - the name of the kit stamped on a side white panel. Inside, the kit has never been started. The contents are mint and complete in the original Charmore paper sacks. The main parts are the correct light blue (just one of the several colors that Charmore used), while the canopy, stand and stand arm are clear. Includes decals and instructions. From toy historians, we know that Charmore was created by the toy giant Louis Marx Company after 1945. Evidently Marx hope to obtain retail buyer-level advantages and tax breaks from the arrangement. The company was named for Louis' brother's (David) wife, Charlene. It has been shown that Charmore and Marx mixed molds and products when it came to toys; however, it seems that the model lines were separate. Please email me if you have more details.
