Aurora Grumman F9F Panther Jet, 1/49, 22-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Dated 1960, but from a later date than that due to the logo variation. Molded in a brilliant gloss deep blue and clear with the clear triangle 'World' stand. These molds are from one of Aurora's first two kits - the F9F and F-90. Aurora simply went out and purchased the early Hawk F9F and F-90 kits and copied them almost exactly. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Decals have minor bug damage on two corners but the actual transfers are perfect.

Aurora Grumman F4F Wildcat, 1/65, 497-70

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Dated 1962 but is from the early 1960s since the price extension is 70 cents and there is no Famous Fighters in the logo border. Most likely the third issue. Molded in dark blue and clear. Never started. Inventoried with all parts, decals and instructions present.

Aurora Curtiss Warhawk P-40 Flying Tiger 'Train' Artwork, 1/48, 44-59

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Very rare. Jim Cox did a few different box art versions of the P-40 for Aurora, and this one is by far the rarest. The box is 100% complete but has serious damage to the top in the form of litho and cardboard tears; for this reason I have grade the box 'fair.' The box topsides and bottom tray are 'very good' to 'excellent.' Inside, the kit is 100% correct. The model has the early one-piece wings, landing gear and bombs for this issue. The clear stand has the rectangle base, and the decals are by Tatem and have no stand decal (that would come later with the new Triangle stand). The instructions have the early WH logo. Decals and instructions are excellent. Molded in gloss olive drab and clear. Never started and complete with all parts, decals and instructions.

Aurora Grumman F4F Wildcat, 1/65, 497-49

Transmitter features self-centering steering, finger trigger throttle control, one/off, steering reverse switch, throttle reverse switch and trim pots for throttle, steering and d/r. Comet Gull by Carl Goldberg - 30 inch Wingspan Wakefield-Style Flying Model, 3903

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

1970s issue of this superb flyer. This is one of the famous Carl Goldberg designs of a cabin class competition endurance model. These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of site, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue.Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, detailed full size plans, building instructions, hardware, pre-formed gear struts, clear window material, color insignia sheet, tissue, wheels, rubber and propeller. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
