Post-Craft Challenger Power Ice Boat For Radio Control or Tether - A / B / C Size Engines (Iceboat)

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Very, very rare kit from the early to mid 1950s. Measures 21 inches long when assembled and is designed for R/C or tethered operation. Can reach actual (not scale) speeds of 130 to 140 miles per hour. As you can imagine, it is a very strong model to withstand the shock of running on the ice as such speeds. This is a very nice early kit with many prefabricated features for fast construction. Features pre-cut plywood bulkheads, pre-cut hardwood spars and skis, balsa planking, formed steel running gear and 'All necessary hardware including formed steel runners resulting in a sturdy, indestructible hull and gear assembly.' The kit has never been started. Although the box is heavily worn, it is complete. The kit inside has been inventoried complete with all parts and still includes the factory sealed hardware envelope, clear material for the canopy and all three sheets of plans with detailed instructions (in 'very good' condition). Post-Craft was a manufacturer listed as 'A Division of Ridgewood Hobbies Inc., 196 East Ridgewood Ave, Ridgewood, NJ.'

Revell SMS Seeadler (Sea Eagle) German WWI Commerce Raider - With 'S' Cement, 1/232, H382-298

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG-

Sold

Rare 1960 hardbox first issue with John Steel artwork. Includes a never-opened, mint tube of Revell 'Type S' Cement that is still wrapped in the factory soft paper protector. This is a kit of a fantastic subject -the famous WWI sailing commerce raider of Count Felix Von Luckner. Very well detailed kit for that time. Full hull kit is molded in gray, brown and black and includes rigging thread and full rigging instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes flag sheet and instructions. The SMS Seeadler was a unique WWI raider in that it was not designed to elude the British blockade and break out to sea...it was designed to pass right through the blockade within full view of the British before attacking allied shipping around the world. No detail was overlooked in the Seeadler's preparation, right down to a Norwegian-speaking crew. The plan went perfectly - and the Seeadler passed inspection at the British Blockade. Her non-threatening appearance helped her in an active and colorful raiding career that nearly went around the world. I highly recommend reading any of several books that you can find about this ship. Von Luckner himself became quite a celebrity for his exciting exploits.

Revell Hawaiian Pilot C3 Freighter 'S' Issue, 1/400, H315-169

Sold

Original issue from 1955 with beautiful hardbox artwork by Scott Eidson. Well detailed for that time and molded in high-gloss light gray. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. I believe that the Matson Line Hawaiian Pilot originally started life as the Navy USS Burleigh C-3 Transport. After the was she became the Oceanic lines SS Sonoma (#2). On July 14, 1953, Hawaiian Pilot collided with SS Jacob Luckenbach (another C-3 freighter, ex-Sea Robin), off San Francisco. Luckenbach sank in 30 minutes; the crew was safely transferred to Hawaiian Pilot and there was no loss of life.

Berkeley Messerschmitt Bf-109F Tactical Demonstration Model from World War 2, 1/32

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Rare kit from 1942. At the start of WWII, the US Armed Forces quickly discovered that they lacked aircraft models for identification and tactical training. A crash course, which many model manufacturers participated in, was set up and people around the country began building models for military use. This is one of those kits. As the instructions say, 'Tactical Demonstrations Models are badly needed by Army, Navy and Civilian Flying School throughout the country. The model is in big 1/32 scale and includes pre-cut fuselage and wings, pre-formed wheels, wood and bamboo stock, celluloid for the canopy, printwood for the smaller parts, full color decals and detailed plans with instructions and sectional templates. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. There is no glue present. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.
