Hudson Miniatures 1909 Ford Model T Touring Car, 1/16

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Sold

Dated 1948 and highly detailed for that time. Large-scale kit measures 8 inches long when built. Features numerous die-cut, saw cut and machined wood parts, beautiful plastic wheels, many cast metal details such as radiators, steering wheel, headlights and lanterns, metal stock and die-cut cardstock parts. Includes excellent full size plans and instructions. This kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Hobby DSRV-1 US Navy Rescue Submarine, 1/60, FI8

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

Sold

Very rare. Excellent artwork shows the DSRV scurrying to a derelict US Nuclear sub (a SSBN I believe) with a sail dive plane snapped in two. Two divers anxiously tap on the hull with hammers while a 3rd diver is almost minced by the rescue sub. Big-scale kit measures about 10 inches long when built and is molded in yellow and medium gray. It is a (older) scale kit that can be built as a display but can also be operated in water with a rubber-band motor. The kit has never been started. All parts are inventoried 100% complete and the drive/motor hardware is still in the factory sealed bag. The original colorful 'Hobby' parts bag is included, and is specific to this model. Includes 'excellent' and fairly extensive decals and 'excellent++' instructions. Even includes the original small tube of glue.

Aurora German Gotha G-V Bomber, 1/48, 126-198

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc+

Sold

Ross Abare issue Gotha. Mr. Abare contracted with Aurora to produce a copy of the original 1958 kit. However, the non-'Famous Fighters' logo was used, thus forever separating the Abare issue from the original issue. Mr. Abare was reportedly quite upset, as he wanted exact copies. Never started. The black parts are still in the factory sealed bags. The maroon parts were never sealed and have been inventoried complete. With 'near mint' decals and instructions.

William H Low Co Rumsey Service Hose Reel 1850 - Wilo Line Fire Trucks, 1/24, CR110

Multimedia Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sold

Very rare. Likely from the 1940s. William H Low Co., of Braintree Mass., issued the 'Wilo Line' which featured a superb series of antique commercial firefighting equipment, all in 1/48 scale. Bill Low was the designer of all kits and he was a superb model maker. The scale is given as 1/2" and the finished model wagon is approximately 7 inches long without the horse hitch and ~ 12 inches long with it. The kits were very advanced for the time and shared many of the pre-fabrication methods of Hudson Miniatures. Wilo Line kits features "all parts in this kit cut to size and shape." Includes plastic injection molded spoke wheels, precut and machined large and small wooden parts, beautiful, metal stock, a sealed bag of smaller parts including a great many more fully carved wood parts, metal parts and full size plans with numerous drawings and detailed text instructions. There is even a big photo of the actual prototype. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed small-parts bags with the non-sealed parts inventoried complete including instructions/plans. The kits in this line include Amoskeag Steamer, Hose Reel, Hose Wagon, Chemical Engine and many others. In most cases they are the only kits in existence of these historic vehicles. Bill Low did design at least one 'non-fire truck' kit in his Will-O-Line - a Conestoga Wagon, advertised as being 1/24 scale, kit #B14 for $2.85 listed as "This is another Museum Piece by Bill Low." After seeing these fire truck kits, I do not doubt that.

Lindberg Civil War Blockade Runner (Harriett Lane / Cutter 'Lavinia') (ex-Pyro), 1/124, 715

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

1985 Lindberg issue from the original Pyro molds dating to the late 1950s. Large scale, full hull kit with very good detail for that time. Includes full rigging instructions. Molded in green, black, butterscotch and medium blue. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions. After the original 1960s issue, Pyro re-marketed the Harriett Lane as the 'Lavinia', which was what the Confederates renamed her when they captured her and made her a blockage runner. The Harriett Lane was built in 1858 and named for President Buchanan's niece. The cutter was 180 feet long with a 30 foot beam and displacement was 670 tons. Armament consisted of 3-9 inch Dahlgrens and 1-30 lb Parrot Rifle. She was built at a time when steam was not fool-proof, so she is rigged for full sails. Harriett Lane served as the Presidential Yacht, the fired the first shot of the Civil War. She chased down blockade runners until January 1, 1863 when she was attacked by five Confederate Gun Boats and boarded. She was captured and renamed the Lavinia and was used as a blockade runner. Near the end of the war she caught fire at sea, and put into Havana Harbor. Federal forces took her again and rebuilt her in 1869 as the bark 'Elliot Ritchie'. She was abandoned at sea in 1884.

After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Revell Lockheed F-94C Starfire - With One Piece Stand Arm - Pre 'S' Kit, 1/56, H210-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM-

Sold

1954 Pre-S issue. This is the rare second issue. The first issue was in the simple one-piece box and Revell quickly converted to this two-piece box as it was much more durable and a full-color lithographed 'slick' could be used. For the second issue, Revell added rivet and raised panel line detail as well as landing gear, a two piece box and H210-79 kit number. The famous 'Globe' clear stand was added, but this kit has the rare one piece stand arm and the instructions reflecting that. Revell quickly realized that the one-piece arm was not strong enough, and quickly modified it to the familiar three piece arm for the 3rd issue. The box is in exceptional condition with four solid corners, as new color and gloss and minimal wear. The model has never been started. The small parts are still in the small factory bag, and the parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried 100% complete. Decals and instructions are in near mint condition as well.
