The actual kit is hard-to-find; it is one of only two 1/72 ST/PT models ever made and both are well out of production and vacuform. Still factory sealed. This is a well detailed and molded vacuform kit. It contains optional parts for different variants and consists of one sheet of very sharp white vac parts and a sheet of many clear canopies. Rare and still the only 1/72 scale kit ever made of this subject. The F3B was a complete redesign of the less successful F2B-1. As a result, F3Bs began to replace F2Bs in just a few months. The US Navy ordered 74 F3Bs and they served from 1928 till 1931. The aircraft was very popular with crews, so it continued in use for many years after it left squadron service. While flying as a 'hack' aircraft, they acquired wheel pants and Townend cowl ring - these parts are also included in the kit. Esoteric was known for production perhaps the finest vacuform kits. The mold quality is higher than most injection molded kits. Features all parts required for construction, very good cockpit, metal details and extruded strut material. Never started. Still factory sealed; this issue includes very fine cast resin tires & rims and cast metal main and nose landing gear struts. This aircraft was the last Curtiss-Wright designed airplane and was intended to replace the P-61 Black Widow. It was a clean and capable design yet underpowered; plans were to use the power powerful J47s in the production aircraft. The Air Force placed a production order; however, that was canceled and it lost out to the F-89 Scorpion. A certain degree of modeling skill is required to build vacuform models. They are not recommended for beginners.
