Tamiya Model Kits, founded in 1946 by Yoshio Tamiya in Shizuoka, Japan, has become a leading manufacturer of plastic model kits. Initially producing wooden models, Tamiya transitioned to plastic in the 1960s, launching its first plastic kit, the 1/35 scale M4 Sherman tank, in 1960.
