Revell Whip-Fly Russian Yak-25 Flashlight - Sound and Streamers, 1/50, H158-129

Rare. The 'Whip Fly' release is based on the 1950s Yak-25 Flashlight "S" kit and comes with a Model Master Stamp for this kit, USSR decals, flight ballast, handle, 12 feet of control line, control ring, streamers for the jet engines and a underside pod which is an in-flight whistle! Never started. The ballast, control line and metal ring and 'streamers' (see below) are still factory sealed. All other parts have been inventoried complete including 'near mint' condition trading stamp, decals and instructions. NOTE: the instructions tell you to cut the streamers from the plastic bag that contains the ballast, control line and ring. Normally, this bag is printed with an orange strip to add color to the streamers. This bag is present, sealed and intact but missed the 'color stripe' machine! The complete Whip-Fly series includes H151 F9F-8 Cougar, H152 F-84F, H153 F-89D Scorpion, H154 F8U-1 Crusader, H155 F-39 Airacobra, H156 F-101A Voodoo, Canberra, F-106 and Yak-25 Flashlight. The Whip-Fly series seemed like a good idea...at first. Revell quickly realized that spinning heavily-ballasted, sharp objects at dizzying speeds in or outside the home near groups of children was not the best idea. The series was quickly discontinued.

Rare. This is the narrow box version of the early 1960s 'Custom Car Parts' Bumpers and Grills. All parts are chrome plated and the instructions are on the reverse of the card. Never started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts. The other issue was the same part number and title but packed in a card with a clear plastic blister-pack. Although these are not dated, I believe the blister-pack/card version to be the later issue.

1976 issue. In that year, Revell issued three kits in this series, numbered H664, H665 and H666. Each contained two aircraft and a color diorama base, backdrop and special stand. If you have all three kits, the three bases fit together to make a large Air Show diorama with all six aircraft. The model has never been started. 1965 hardbox issue. The troubled and short service life of the Lockheed Electra airliner posed a problem for Revell; they had invested heavily in the Electra tooling but the kits were no longer selling. Luckily, the Navy took a long term view of the Electra airframe/powerplant combination and saw a superb ASW aircraft. Revell modified the Electra molds to produce this fine small scale Orion kit. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.
