  Revell models for sale

Revell logoRevell got its start in the early 1940s when Lou Glaser founded Precision Specialties, an early injection molding company in California. By the early 1950s, another California-based plastic toy company, Gowland & Gowland, created the first U.S. plastic car models, the 1/32 scale Highway Pioneers line. The Gowlands successfully convinced Glaser to market the product. The Highway Pioneers literally took the nation by storm and marked the birth of the modern hobby industry. This success led Revell to focus on plastic model kits. Revell's first mold was the 1953 USS Missouri, their best-selling ship model of all time. The first aircraft were the F-94C, F7U-1, and F9F-6, issued in simple one-piece, flip-top boxes with three-color printing directly on the box. The physical and marketing weaknesses were soon evident, and Revell quickly contracted with teams of prominent commercial artists and transitioned to thicker two-piece cardboard boxes with the box top wrapped in a full-color lithograph slick. These famous aircraft and ship models were known as Pre S issues and included the B-52, B-36, B-24, B-29, USS Constitution, Harbor Tug Long Beach, and more. In 1955, the famous S (Glue) logo was introduced, marking the Golden Age of Revell box art and constant releases of all-new kits. In the late 1950s, Revell released a series of rocket and space models. Many are very rare and valuable today, representing some of the Holy Grail of all collectible model kits. In the early 1960s, Revell began making models to standard scales (such as 1/72 and 1/48), and in the late 1960s and early 1970s, they launched the first successful line of 1/32 aircraft. Revell produced a wide range of models, including aircraft, automobiles, tanks, armor, and space kits, and released more now-rare gift sets than any other manufacturer. While other American manufacturers largely neglected ship kits, Revell's design team and mold cutters produced some of the best injection-molded sailing ship models ever made; the 1960 1/96 scale Cutty Sark and 1965 USS Constitution are still the standard by which other ship models are judged. Despite being the largest model producer in the U.S., Revell was only marginally profitable. In 2018, Revell was acquired by Quantum Capital Partners (Blitz) in Germany.

Even the box artwork is a reproduction of the original. Features swivel and elevating gun barrel with recoil action, rotating wheels with rubber tires, trails that fold inward for towing or outward for the firing position, 4 G.I. figures, shell casings, projectiles, shell crate and more. Revell Nuclear Powered Polaris Submarine With Full Interior - George Washington Class SSBM - Master Modelers Club Issue, 1/261, H425-249

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Nuclear Powered Polaris Submarine With Full Interior - George Washington Class SSBM - Master Modelers Club Issue

$165

Rare, early Sea Power hardbox issue dated 1961. The box is in 'Very Good+' condition and the kit is unusually complete down to the Master Modelers Club Trading Stamp (of this kit), Revell 1962 Miniature (1/25) Catalog and even the 'Submarine Development' booklet. This kit caused a real issue with the Navy who was shocked that Revell had been able to issue such an accurate model. It was highly detailed for that time will full interior, removable starboard hull half and two Polaris missiles that 'fire' using spring power. Includes a display stand and a large decal sheet which has markings for SSB(N)600 Theodore Roosevelt, SSB(N)601 Robert E Lee, SSB(N)602 Abraham Lincoln, SSB(N)558 George Washington and SSB(N)559 Patrick Henry. Molded in the correct gloss medium gray, light green and black. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.

Revell Tanker J.L. Hanna - Standard Oil of California T-2- S Issue, 1/400, H322-169

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

Tanker J.L. Hanna - Standard Oil of California T-2- S Issue

$145

Rare original issue from 1955. This model has some of my favorite Revell 'S' artwork and is also an exemplary kit for that that time. Inside, the model is molded in the correct gloss dark red plastic and has not been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts present and includes decals, flag sheet and instructions. Decals are perfectly flat and intact, with the typical age yellowing as the only flaw. The instructions are 'excellent' with the same age discoloration but otherwise fine. Please NOTE that the box is 'good-' so it is not in collectible condition. It has many small dark spots on the left (very hard to see at some angles), a 2" long tape tear at the center of the lower long side, edge wear, litho chipping on the edges and just a lot of wear all around - but good gloss, color and with four solid, original corners. But not collectible.

Revell Lockheed ASW P-3A Orion - US Navy VP-8, 1/115, H163

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Poor

Lockheed ASW P-3A Orion - US Navy VP-8

$28

1973 USA issue of the famous, long-serving ASW aircraft. The flaws in the Lockheed Electra ensured that it had a short service life as an airliner. But the sound design was modified into one of the most successful and long serving of all ASW aircraft - the Orion. Revell seized upon this opportunity to recoup some of the money sunk into the Electra molds. The molds were modified to make this kit, the "A" version of the venerable patrol aircraft. (please see the article about the mold conversion this on this website.) Features optional position landing gear & loading door, movable wheels & propeller and more. Never started. Inventoried and NOTE: missing (1) part, landing gear door #19R. Otherwise complete with all other parts, decals and instructions present. The decals and instructions are both in 'near mint' condition. The box is 'poor' due to all the stains shown.

Revell Shelby GT350R Mustang - Light Weight 1960s Racer, 1/25, 85-2874

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

Shelby GT350R Mustang - Light Weight 1960s Racer

$26

Still factory sealed. This 2009 model features over 85 pieces, high-performance Shelby-modified Ford 289 CID engine, detailed engine compartment, removable hood, unique vented rear window, complete interior, detailed chassis, side exit exhaust, 5 spoke mag wheels and more. Molded in white, clear, chrome plated plastic and with rubber tires. In the first year of production, Carroll Shelby built between 500 and 600 GT350s. Mustangs received all of their modifications at Shelby's makeshift Los Angeles plant. However, 36 cars were set aside to become competition models, the GT-350R. Weight is one of the racers main enemies and the GT-350R came in 500 pounds lighter than it's best competition.

Revell Ford GT-40 1969 Le Mans Winner - Die-Cast Display Model, 1/18, 48824

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Ford GT-40 1969 Le Mans Winner - Die-Cast Display Model

$58

Rare and even more so in this condition. The model is from the original owner; you will be the second owner. The large, 1/18 scale car has never been displayed and is still factory-attached to the inner packing material. It would be difficult if not impossible to find one in better condition. The outer box is 100% intact but does have light wear and a crease on the top as shown. The clear window is 100% intact. Please NOTE that this is a factory-built, painted and decorated model which is ready to display. It is not a kit.

Mc Donnell F-101A Voodoo - Academy / Astronaut Wings Issue

$85

1962 USA issue that is in investment-grade 'Near Mint' condition inside and out. This model is from the original 'S' kit molds. The kit has never been started. All parts and all paperwork are still in the internal factory sealed bag. Literally all of the contents are still factory sealed.

Revell Martin P6M Seamaster 'S' Issue, 1/136, H244-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Martin P6M Seamaster 'S' Issue

$125

First issue dated 1956 with the "S" kit artwork that has made these kits so famous and collectible. The box is in investment-grade "Near Mint" condition. It has factory-new color and gloss, four solid corners, no creases or tears, no missing litho and no price tags. The only flaws are very light wear and short sections of old tape residue at the center of the two long sides (the tape is long since gone). This issue has 'SeaMaster' in yellow on the box top; the other issue has it in red. Inside, this well molded jet seaplane includes the clear 'Revelving' globe display stand. The airplane is molded in gloss gray and clear. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including all parts, decals and instructions present. Instructions are 'near mint+' and the decals are 'excellent+++' with slight yellowing as the only significant flaw.

Revell Boeing B-47 Six Engine Jet Bomber - Air Power Series, 1/112, H140-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Boeing B-47 Six Engine Jet Bomber - Air Power Series

$45

1961 hardbox Air Power issue from the same molds as the famous 1950s Pre 'S' kit. Makes an ideal builder and is molded in gloss silver and clear plastic. Never started and the parts & ball paperwork are still in the internal factory sealed bag. Literally the entire contents of the box is factory sealed. Please NOTE that this box displays better than the 'very good' grade. The reason for the lower rating is because there is a factory flaw on the right short box top side. The lithograph 'slick' got caught up in the machine and folded under itself, leaving about 1/3 of the right small side panel as bare cardboard.

Revell Monster Machines Challenger I And Showboat - Mickey Thompson and Tommy Ivo, 1/25, 7501

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Monster Machines Challenger I And Showboat - Mickey Thompson and Tommy Ivo

$44

1987 issue features both kits from the original 1960s molds. The Challenger I was originally released in 1962 and it was a revolutionary kit that broke new ground in 1/25 level of detail. In Tom Graham's interviews with Jim Keeler, the kit designer, the molds cost $80,000 in 1961 - twice that of a normal car kit. To design the kit, Thompson's mechanics gave the Revell team full run of the vehicle and even disassembled it for them. The kit features removable boy panels, four super detailed Pontiac V-8 engines with 18 parts each, complete chassis, suspension and drive train detail, water tanks, fuel tanks, parachute holder, cockpit and much more. The level of detail is astounding. Molded in correct baby blue & red plastic, chrome plate and with rubber tires. The Showboat certainly fit the name - it had four Buick Nailhead engines with individual gear boxes. That kit is very well detailed as well. Both are never started. All the red and blue colored parts are still factory sealed in the bag. The few parts not sealed (chrome and tires) have been inventoried complete. Includes decals and instructions.

Features 4 torpedo tubes, 2 twin .50 caliber machine guns, 20mm cannon, life raft, 4 crew figures, full rudder & propeller detail, display stand and more. Never started. The parts are either inventoried 100% complete or still in the internal factory sealed bag. Includes decals and instructions.

Revell Dornier Do X Flying Boat - (Do-X), 1/700, 04066

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Dornier Do X Flying Boat - (Do-X)

$65

This famous German Flying Boat was built in 1929. Dornier dreamed that this huge aircraft would become a trans-oceanic airliner with passengers traveling in ocean liner-like luxury. A tour of South and North American was conducted, but orders never materialized due to excessive fuel consumption and a lack of power. Total load was 170 passengers and crew, and the 12 engines developed 7200 HP. This is a very nicely detailed model with 121 pieces. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.
