  Renwal Model Kits for sale

Renwal logoRenwal Model Kits, founded in 1949 in the United States, became known for its innovative and detailed plastic model kits, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s. The company initially focused on military and aircraft models, gaining recognition for its high-quality products. One of its most notable releases was the 1/32 scale Flying Tiger P-40 Warhawk, which debuted in 1965 and showcased intricate details that appealed to model enthusiasts.

In 1967, Renwal introduced the Dinosaur series, which included kits like the 1/40 scale Tyrannosaurus Rex, capturing the imagination of both children and adults. The company also ventured into science fiction with the Star Trek USS Enterprise model in the 1970s, tapping into the popular culture of the time. Despite its eventual decline in the late 1970s, Renwal's legacy endures among collectors, with many of its kits still cherished for their craftsmanship and historical significance in the modeling community.

Renwal M-50 Ontos - The Thing With The Sting, 1/32, 85-7823

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed NM

M-50 Ontos - The Thing With The Sting

$29

Still factory sealed. 2014 reissue from the original late 1950s/early 1960s molds. Very highly detailed for that time featuring 108 pieces, working treads, some interior detail, opening hatches and covers and more. The Ontos was a unique vehicle. Ontos is a Greek word for 'The Thing' and the vehicles lives up to that. Developed along a new concept in mobile warfare, the Ontos has little defense other than movement but a very powerful offensive punch. It carries six 106mm recoilless rifles and .50 caliber spotting rifles. The firing sequence went like this: the crew of three would get out and hand-load the six large guns. Then the Ontos would quickly move towards the target. Once sited, the gunner would fire the .50 caliber spotting rifle. This gun fired a different cartridge, a special low velocity round that matched the trajectory of the 106mm. The spotting round was very accurate and made a visible flash on striking the target. Then he could fire a full salvo of 6 or in steps of two. The 8.5 ton vehicle would then speed away, moving to a safe location to reload.
