Pyro Model Kits, founded in the 1940s in the United States, has a storied history in the realm of plastic modeling. Initially known for producing high-quality wooden toys, Pyro transitioned to plastic model kits in the 1950s, quickly gaining popularity among hobbyists for their innovative designs and attention to detail.
Some of the most notable kits from Pyro include the 1/72 Scale B-25 Mitchell, a legendary World War II bomber, and the 1/48 Scale P-51 Mustang, celebrated for its role in the Allied victory. The 1/25 Scale 1957 Ford Thunderbird and the 1/72 Scale USS Constitution are also significant, showcasing Pyro's commitment to historical accuracy and craftsmanship. Although the company faced challenges in the 1970s, Pyro's legacy endures through its classic kits, which continue to inspire modelers today.

Small scale ship kit from the Table Top Navy series. Very nicely done kits for their time. Can be built full hull or waterline. Features propeller and shaft detail, separately molded turrets, stacks, many superstructure parts and more. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and instructions. Many of the Pyro kits came from Eagle (then Eaglewall) molds in England. Eaglewall went out of business around 1962 and Pyro acquired at least some of the molds. Pyro reissued some of these kits in the mid 1960s with AJ Rudisill artwork. Evidently the line was successful, as Pyro then cut some of their own molds and expanded the series significantly. The earlier issues have the full color artwork and a three digit part number. Later issues have a 'B' or 'C' in front of the three digit kit number; some have simplified box art that is a modification of the original Rudisill paintings by painting out most of the background. Pyro issued these kits into the late 1960 when Life-Like took over the molds. Some were reissued by Life-Like.

1960s hardbox issue with great ironclad-battle artwork by AJ Rudisill. These are very good models of the two American Civil War ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the James River. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862. The Monitor is 10 inches long and the Merrimac is 11 inches long when built. Both are full hull models and include display stands. Never started. The Monitor is still in the factory sealed bag. The Merrimac was never factory sealed and has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts present. Includes instructions for both ships. Although dated, these kits are generally considered superior to the Lindberg issues of the same ships.
