Revell Whip-Fly F-89D Scorpion, 1/80, H153-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Whip-Fly F-89D Scorpion

$49

1960 issue of the rare 'Whip Fly hardbox series. Tom Kelly did the 'Action' photos for most of these kits. Whip-Fly kits contain the aircraft model with nose ballast, a metal control ring, 12 feet of control line and a control handle. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The back of the instructions gives the user important tips about whip flying and a paragraph on calculating 'How Fast Will It Go?' The long side of the box shows the complete Whip-Fly series with the action box art. Included are H151 F9F-8 Cougar, H152 F-84F, H153 F-89D Scorpion, H154 F8U-1 Crusader, H155 F-39 Airacobra and H156 F-101A Voodoo. Although not listed yet, there was also a Whip-Fly Canberra, F-106 and Yak-25 Flashlight. The Whip-Fly series seemed like a good idea...at first. Revell quickly realized that spinning heavily-ballasted, sharp objects at dizzying speeds near groups of children was not the best plan; the series was quickly discontinued.

Sterling Curtiss P-6E Hawk Drops Bombs In Flight - 16 Inch Wingspan Flying Model Aircraft, A10

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Curtiss P-6E Hawk Drops Bombs In Flight - 16 Inch Wingspan Flying Model Aircraft

$62

Excellent flying model from the early to mid 1960s that is designed for rubber free flight or control line. It includes an innovative system for dropping bombs in flight. Features stick and tissue construction, quality die-cut balsa parts, stripwood and spars, other wood stock as required, die-cut clear windshield, vac plastic details including radiator scoop, engine cowling, pilot bust, wheels pants, exhaust ports and more, finished wire landing gear struts, finished main and tail wheels, rubber motor, plastic propeller, covering tissue and a big full color decal sheet. Includes excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. Never started. The small parts are still in the factory sealed bag; the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete. Please NOTE: the box displays better than the 'very good+' grade but is rated as such because there is a 1.5" long closed tear at the center of the lower long box side. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling's offering to be 'deluxe' compared to other manufacturers.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Convair B-58 Hustler - Supersonic Jet Bomber

$85

Rare model injection molded plastic model from the late 1950s. Comet, the famous manufacture of wooden flying model kits, cut molds in the '50s for several aircraft. They made two different Hustlers; this is the larger of the two Comet issues and is housed in a two piece hardbox. Very nicely molded and detailed for that time. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions. Please note that the box displays slightly better than 'very good++' but is rated as such because each long side has small, 1/2" x 1/2" tape tears from the factory sealing tape. In the mid 1950s Comet, then known for it's line of stick and tissue flying model aircraft, branched out into plastic model kits. By 1963, Comet sold all production molds to Aurora, and Aurora reissued the kits. This lead to Aurora having three different scale B-58 kits in stock - their own near 1/72 and the two from Comet.

1970s large-scale issue for rubber or gas free flight, or easily converted to RC using today's tiny and light servos and receivers. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction, large insignia sheet, detailed full size plans that include text building instructions and additional construction drawings, fully formed & finished main and tail wheels & thrust button, hardware, tissue, clear canopy material and pattern, propeller, rubber motor and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
