Late 1950s or early 1960s issue of this beautiful 1/11.6 scale kit. Sterling's authentic reproduction based on the plans and photos of the actual aircraft. The kit is very well engineered and features the finest grade and density-selected balsa wood, sanded to micrometer tolerance and precision die-cut, quality die-cut quality plywood for high stress areas, factory-cut stringers and spars, other wood stock as required, large aluminum cowling, factory-sealed hardware kit, fully leading and training wing edges, covering material, formed spring steel main landing gear struts, clear windshield and window material, a very large & authentic decal sheet and easy to read step-by-step plans & instructions. Never started. All of the small parts are still sealed in the factory clear bag. The parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete and includes all paperwork. The Howard DGA-6 was a pioneer racing plane, nicknamed 'Mister Mulligan.' It was the only airplane ever designed for the specific purpose of winning the Bendix Trophy. The plane was designed and developed by Ben Howard and Gordon Israel, who later became an engineer for the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation. Mister Mulligan was designed to fly the entire length of the race nonstop and at high altitude. Neither had ever been done before. Mister Mulligan won the trophy, and thus changed the way in which long distance airplanes were designed. Sterling, the manufacturer of this kit, was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had the action features and included everything needed to complete the model.

It is noteworthy for it's excellent fit & finish and the large and beautiful set of decals for the "Gulfhawk" Gulf Oil sponsored air-show aircraft flown by the famous Al Williams. Williams amazing stunt routines amazed millions of spectators over several decades; however (and unfairly), his Gulfhawk aircraft were more famous than he was. There were many Gulfhawks through the years that amazed millions of spectators, but two of the most famous were the F3F Biplane and the F8F Bearcat.

Rare dual conversion kit which features excellent vacuform parts. First, the BFC-2 includes the rear upper fuselage fairing, a very good cockpit (which is completely lacking in the Monogram kit) and two-piece, optional position clear vac canopies (mint condition and not yellowed). Second, the BFC-1 conversion is a full fuselage only - other changes are required as well, so the BFC-1 conversion will take research and advanced modeling techniques including scratch building - it is not for beginners. Includes instructions with exploded parts diagram showing the base Monogram kit, full written assembly instructions and very good color scheme notes. Inventoried with all parts present and instructions. While these kits say on the front that they include decals, not one that I have seen has had any decals and this one is no exception. NOTE: this is the conversion kit only. Requires the Monogram base kit which is not included.

The N9H was the final refinement of the Curtiss model 5 'N' Series aircraft. It was developed from it's more famous relative, the JN series and was essentially a navalized 'Jenny'. It was the Navy's first mass produced training aircraft. 560 were built and they served from 1916 to 1926. The aircraft was loved by aircrews and was responsible for training the nucleus of WWII US Naval Aviation. Esoteric was known for making perhaps the finest vacuform kits.
