Plastic Model Kit, Box Condition: Exc
$20
Limited run Russian injection molded kit with gray injection molded main parts and a very clear injection molded clear canopy. Features very fine recessed surface detail, a very good cockpit with rudder pedals, stick, instrument panel & seat, full landing gear with wheels or optional skis, optional parts for different variants and even the large wing tip jet engine variant. Includes full color decals for aircraft '7' and '2'. Never started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The instructions are a super, extra-large affair in both Russian and English & includes multi-view paint guides for both aircraft and the optional variants, excellent aircraft history, parts diagram and excellent, illustrated assembly instructions. 'BI' stood for Blizhnii Istrebitel, which was 'close-range fighter' in Russian. Obviously, it also stood for the last names of the designers. The program was the Soviet Union's effort to produce a low cost rocket interceptor. The airplane flew and flew well, but it was plagued by engine issues, corrosion from nitric acid, and eventually tail flutter at high speeds that caused the loss of the most experienced test pilot, Grigory Yakovlevich Bakhchivandzhi. The early development started in 1938, with the first flights in 1940. The aircraft underwent a series of engine improvements and was still testing through 1945. The aircraft never entered series production. Bi-1 through BI-9 were built.

Scott Eidson, the famous artist best known for his artwork with Revell, also did UPC box art in the 1960s. All UPC production ended in the 1970s.

Vaccuform Model Kit, Box Condition: Exc
$48
Very high quality vacuform kit of this 2000+ mph aircraft from 1956. Features beautiful, smooth moldings with recessed control surfaces, clear canopy material and full instructions with a detailed paint and markings guide. NOTE: the kit is part number coded as 1/48 scale, however, it says 1/40 scale in the instructions, so I am not certain which one is correct; Vac Wings normally only made kits in 1/48 and 1/72 scale. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. Vacuform model kits are not for beginners. Previous experience is required as well as scratch-building skills.

Rare, historically significant injection molded model. Veeday was a British company that produced some of the earliest 'short run' injection molded kits. Production lasted from 1978 to 1982. In all, 16 kits were issued if you count the Cierva C30 RAF and the C30 civil issue as two kits. Less than 1000 of each kit was produced and all kits were boxed. Two bagged kits (Pfalz D.XII and Spitfire 24) were issued after Veeday ceased production by someone who purchased the left-over stock. This kit has never been started - all parts and decals are present. However, NOTE: the instructions are missing. That is probably why it is labeled a "Sample Only."
