Still factory sealed and very rare in this condition. This 19 inch wingspan kit is designed for free flight with 'easy conversion to control line or R/C flying.' Includes an innovative system for automatically dropping 'propaganda leaflets' in flight. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they featured color decals, high-grade die cut balsa, vacuform plastic detail parts, plastic wheels (if required), finished wire landing gear, rubber motor and plastic prop, full size plans with instruction details and full instructions for conversion to RC or control line.

The Fw-189 made its first flight in the late 1930s and was ordered into production soon afterwards. It was built until 1944 and served well on the Eastern Front, where it was known for it's performance, maneuverability, ability to absorb damage and adaptability to many rolls.

The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The FW-190 V18 was an attempt to improve FW-190 performance at high altitudes. The V18 had a pressured cabin, DB 603G engine with a Hirth 9-2281 turbo-supercharger and a four blade propeller. There was a new air intake below the cockpit and a larger vertical tail surface as well. The design flew very well, but the Hirth unit was too unreliable for service use and project was abandoned.

I fondly remember building this kit and it looked excellent. Features several sheets of printwood, three sizes of strip wood, scale wooden propellers and hubs, plastic flying props, balsa blocks are required, fully carved and finished main & nose wheels and thrust buttons, metal propeller/rubber shafts, dowels as required, clear window material, full size stabilizer and nacelle to fuselage fillet patterns, window cutting patterns, insignia sheet, full size plans, instructions and tissue. Still factory sealed and in 'Near Mint' box condition. This is the 1986 issue from the original 1960s molds. It is well molded and detailed for that time featuring a very good cockpit, moving ailerons, optional bomb load, crew and more. Includes decals from a most memorable Battle actions at the Maastricth bridges in May 1940 when five Battles of No. 12 Squadron, all flown by volunteers, were all shot down. Also includes decals for Belgian Air Force.

Second issue dated 1966. This is a quality kit from the modified 'Four Star' molds (see below). Features drop tanks, bombs, opening canopy, pilot figure, ground crewman and boarding ladder. Molded in green, light gray and clear. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals. This is a fine time to outline the mold changes that Monogram made on their Thud model. The Four Star issue was much closer to the very early or prototype aircraft. For the 'Blue Box' issue Monogram did a very nice upgrade. The two rear-vision windows behind the cockpit were removed, the 'spring' for the ejecting pilot was deleted, the revolving bomb bay and nuclear bomb was replaced with the new fuselage and two supersonic drop tanks and external bombs were added. The kit is molded in two colors (dark green and sky gray) and had new decals; both of which reflected the bombing role in South East Asia. Never started and inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions.
