Built by Detroit Basin Inc, they were designed to reach a downed aircraft very quickly and rescue the crew in the least possible time. They were powered by three 1,500 horsepower Packard V-12 gasoline engines and fully crewed by 14 men and 2 officers. After reaching a downed aircraft, the pilots were brought aboard through a gate in the transom. In the event the flight crew was injured, the well in the stern leads directly into a sick bay with 12 litters. To ward off attackers, these vessels were equipped with two 20mm twin mount cannons and plenty of ammunition. They had radar and could operate in all weather conditions.

Lindberg Russian Jet Fighter Mig-19 With Tow Tractor - Cellovision Issue, 1/48, 561-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed VG+

Russian Jet Fighter Mig-19 With Tow Tractor - Cellovision Issue

$72

Very rare. This is a factory sealed 1950s Cellovision issue. The clear window on the back is intact and the trading card is in 'Near Mint+' condition. Amazingly, the box is in 'very good+' condition, which is rare because these Cellovision boxes were very thin and prone to damage; this one lived a charmed life. Inside, the model is a large 1/48 scale theoretical Mig-19 based on an illustration in a reputable aviation magazine. Lindberg removed this kit from from production well before it's time because it quickly became obvious that this aircraft never existed in this configuration. However, Aurora made one almost just like it; so it is believed that they both based the kits on the same faulty magazine drawing. Includes a very well detailed tow tractor with driver. The aircraft is molded in silver & clear and the tractor in yellow plastic.

Lindberg Tuna Clipper Ann - (Gulf Star) - (ex Pyro and Life-Like), 1/58, 70896

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc+

Tuna Clipper Ann - (Gulf Star) - (ex Pyro and Life-Like)

$38

Still factory sealed. From quality Pyro molds dating from the early 1960s. This kit is modeled from the two Tuna Clippers "Gulf Star" and "Sea Magic" of the Avondale Marine Ways Company of New Orleans. The model has a hull length of 13.5 inches. Pyro's original issues were designed for water operation (with the Boat PowerPack which sold separately). While this kit does not include any of this gear, it is very sturdy and would make a very nice small R/C model. Hard-working tuna boats and crews roamed the ocean year-around in a dangerous business. Many vanished without a trace. The Gulf Star was wrecked on a reef off Peru.

Lindberg Boeing Trainer PT-17 Kaydet - (ex Varney / ex O-Lin), 1/48, 508-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Boeing Trainer PT-17 Kaydet - (ex Varney / ex O-Lin)

$84

Rare 1950s hardbox issue with colorful Ray Gaedke boxart. This rare kit has a long and interesting history that goes back to the first plastic model airplane kit ever issued in the USA. These molds were originally created by Varney in the 1940s - please see the article (on this website) about this. The Varney PT-17 was the first (or one of the first) injection molded, scale plastic model aircraft kits produced in the USA. O-Lin, of which Paul Lindberg was one-half of, purchased the Varney molds and released the kit after slight mold modifications. When O-Lin became Lindberg, this exact model was released once - which is this kit - with the minimally modified molds. After this release, the molds were modified more significantly. The parts match the O-Lin parts perfectly, one-for-one. They are molded in very bright glossy yellow, black and clear plastic (the O-Lin parts were white, black and clear). Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Both the decals and instructions are in remarkable 'near mint' condition.

After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.
