Lindberg 1/48 Boeing Trainer PT-17 Kaydet - (ex Varney / ex O-Lin), 508-98 plastic model kit

1/48 508-98 Lindberg Boeing Trainer PT-17 Kaydet - (ex Varney / ex O-Lin)

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Rare 1950s hardbox issue with colorful Ray Gaedke boxart. This rare kit has a long and interesting history that goes back to the first plastic model airplane kit ever issued in the USA. These molds were originally created by Varney in the 1940s - please see the article (on this website) about this. The Varney PT-17 was the first (or one of the first) injection molded, scale plastic model aircraft kits produced in the USA. O-Lin, of which Paul Lindberg was one-half of, purchased the Varney molds and released the kit after slight mold modifications. When O-Lin became Lindberg, this exact model was released once - which is this kit - with the minimally modified molds. After this release, the molds were modified more significantly. The parts match the O-Lin parts perfectly, one-for-one. They are molded in very bright glossy yellow, black and clear plastic (the O-Lin parts were white, black and clear). Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present. Both the decals and instructions are in remarkable 'near mint' condition.
