1/400 81015 Heller Richelieu French Battleship

Very large 1/400 scale full hull kit. As with most Heller ship kits, this model is very highly detailed and very finely molded. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag complete with decals and instructions. The French Battleships Richelieu and Jean Bart were striking beautiful and powerful ships. Both benefited from the design of the Dunkerque-class Battlecruisers, which were exceptionally well engineered and very difficult to sink as proven by the Dunkerque herself at the tragedy of Mers-El-Kebir. As the Dunkerque-class, these ships had extensive underwater protection and a unique water-exclusion material in the voids. The Richelieu-class carried all of it's main armament forward in two quad turrets with 380mm guns. The heavy secondary guns of 152 mm were carried aft. A high speed of 30 kts was proven and was not at the sacrifice of armor protection as on other capital ships. Richelieu escaped the fall of France and served with Allied forces throughout WWII and was present in Tokyo Bay at the end of WWII. Her sister Jean Bart was completed after the war and the two served with distinction in the post-war French Navy into the 1950s.
