As a young child, he had sworn to go around the world solo under sail. Jacques began construction of the Kurun immediately after World War II. In spite of the scarcity of raw materials, the ship was floated and ready for it's first trials on February 26, 1948. He set the sails for his epic journey on September 19, 1948 at 4 pm. On July 7, 1952, after 45 months sailing, the battle-scared Kurun arrived at the harbor of Le Croisic after circumnavigating the globe.
