1970s Heller 'Black Box' issue. Nicely molded with recessed control surfaces and fine raised panel lines. Includes parts for the '500 or the '501 and markings for the two aircraft listed. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The D-500 was the result of Programme C-1 in 1932 that was destined to replace the obsolete French fighter fleet. In November of 1933 the D-500 was chosen from the competitors, and this established the reputation of the Dewoitine company. The D-500 was made entirely of metal and fitted with a Hispano-Suiza 12 cylinder engine and a turbo-compressor. It was armed with 2 Vickers machine guns on the cowling and 2 Darne machine guns on the wings. The D-501 was a variant of the D-500 that arried a motorized cannon. The HS-59 20mm cannon and the 2 Mac 34 nacelles replaced the weapons of the '500. The propeller was also changed and lost the streamlined nose cone. Total production of both types was 257 aircraft. At the start of WWII, 43 D-501 fighters were still in front-line service.
