Originally designed for trade and fishing, it proved to have such high speed and adaptability that is was used as a warship. Usual war load was four deck cannons and between four and six blunderbusses. It appeared from time to time in many navies into the 17th century, particularly during the Revolution and the 'Empire' days. The Corsair was typical of the trade war ships that roamed the Mediterranean from Morocco, Spain, Italy or France.
