Renwal Frank Hawks JN-4 Heddon Jenny Barnstormer, 1/48, 284-169

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc+

$85

Still factory sealed but the seal has split. After WWI there was a surplus of JN-4 aircraft and many found their way into barnstorming across the country. Frank Hawks was one such pilot. Heddon, an enterprising fishing tackle manufacture, hired Frank to pilot this brilliantly painted Jenny in air shows as an advertising plan. This is one of Renewal's famous Aeroskin kits. The model has an injection molded inner structure of ribs and stringers like a real aircraft, then the modeler covers it with provided authentic pre-colored Aeroskin fabric. There is no painting needed as elaborate finishes are printed directly on the Aeroskin covering. This results a very realistic and colorful model.

Pyro Monitor United States Ironclad, C258-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$59

Rare early issue of the Monitor alone from the late 50s with artwork by AJ Rudisill. Usually this kit is only seen in the release that contains it and the Merrimac together. The model is 10 inches long when built, is full hull with prop and rudder detail, has a rotating turret and includes a display stand. Never started. Either inventoried 100% complete with all parts present or still factory bag sealed inside. With instructions. Although dated, the Pyro Monitor and Merrimac kits are generally considered superior to the Lindberg models of the same ships. The Monitor was one of two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the James River. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862.

Maircraft Boeing F4B-4 - Solid Wood Model Airplane - (F4B4), 1/48, S16

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

$24

Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work. This kit features a full size plan with instructions steps, fuselage that is about 80% cut, profile cut parts, printwood and a small bag of details. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

La Belle Victor Gold Mining Co. Gondola HOn3 Narrow Gauge - Craftsman Model, 1/87, HOn3-34

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$30

Please read the article on this website about older HO train kits and the modeling revolution they caused in the late 1930s/1940s. During the golden era of realistic train models, La Belle Woodworking Company created perhaps the very finest scale kits of early American equipment. The kit features die cut hardwood parts (no balsa) such as pre-cut and scribed sides all cut to the correct size, car ends done in the same fashion, excellent underside and cast metal details, building instructions and plans and decals/transfers. I have seen these models built and they look identical to the real prototypes. The kit has not been started and is complete with two packets of small parts still factory sealed, and all other parts inventoried complete with transfers and instructions.
