Around 1949 the USAF assigned a high priority to all weather fighter design and deployment. Most aircraft manufacturers responded with traditional two seat machines, such as the F-94. North American, however took a new approach and created one of the first true "One-Man Interceptors". Keeping the wings and landing gear from the proven F-86 Day Fighter, they made a longer and deeper fuselage with a large radome and J47 engine. Guns were replaced with 24 2.75" folding fin rockets. Although more than a ton heavier than the F-86, the Dog was the fastest aircraft of it's day and set several world records. 2,504 were built and formed the backbone of America's air defense system in the 1950s. This model is highly detailed and features all recessed panel lines, detailed cockpit, detailed wheel wells, optional position leading edge slats and wing flaps, drop tanks, optional position speed brakes, canopy and rocket tray and a highly detailed tow tractor. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions.

1997 Revell-Monogram reissue of this classic and well detailed Aurora kit. When Monogram purchased the Aurora molds, it initially reissued all of the more modern molds. The Ford GT molds were so good that the kit was reissued again in 1997. Features fully detailed suspension, chassis, engine, exhaust and interior, opening hood with spare tire, opening trunk with full engine compartment and more. Molded in white, black, clear and chrome with rubber tires. The kit has never been started. The parts that were factory sealed are still in the sealed bags. The parts that were not factory sealed (chrome and clear) have been inventoried complete including decals and instructions.

From about 1973. Still factory sealed but the seal has drawn the box top concave as shown. Large scale issue for rubber or gas free flight, or easily converted to RC using today's tiny and light servos and receivers. Box art is by Locher, who did a great deal of the Monogram box artwork also. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with all die cut parts, 'Tube-O-Matic' fuselage construction and 'Rugged Super X Simplified Non-Warping Wing' construction, colorful insignia, detailed full size plans, building instructions, wheels, hardware, tissue and propeller. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
