Monogram Little Air Force Assortment Gift Set - Speedee-Bilt F-51 (P-51) / F6F and Superkit F-51 and F-84

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$950

Very rare 1950s "pre-injection molded" gift set. Long before injection molded kit were made in the USA, Monogram produced perhaps the finest pre-fabricated wooden kits with plastic details. The Speedee-Bilt series were flying models with pre-painted and cut wooden parts with plastic props, cowls, pilots, etc. The Superkits were smaller static models with precarved wooden parts and many plastic details. The kits themselves are rare today, but the gift set is very rare. Monogram issued very few gift sets for injection kits, and even fewer in the early 1950s for the wooden kits. The gift set consists of a special 'Christmas' box with a tray and lift-off top with a cello window. This one contains 2 Superkits (F-84 Thunderjet and F-51 Mustang) and 2 Speedee-Bilts (the F6F Hellcat and F-51 Mustang). The outer box is near mint and in investment grade condition - which is amazing considering the age of the set. Even the original cut-out add for MonoDope and MonoGlue is present. The four kits are in mint boxes and have never started. Each is 100% inventoried complete with all parts/decals and instructions present.

Kit features fine raised details, moving rudder and wing control surfaces, complete jet engine and opening inspection cover, pilot, two drop tanks, underwing rockets and a clear display stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Box displays much better than the grade but is ranked 'good-' because one short panel has stains, wear and three (later) price stickers. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

And thanks to Stephen Payne for submitting this additional information- The team of Ronnie Sox and Buddy Martin raced at tracks throughout North Carolina and became a national sensation in the 1960s and early '70s dominating the action in their chosen area of competition, including the Super Stock, Factory Experimental, Funny Car, and Pro Stock categories. The team duo pioneered the development of drag racing teams as professional business operations. Sox was the winningest Pro Stock driver (nine victories in 23 events) in the 1970-72 "four-speed era." Initially Martin and Sox were competitors, but Martin approached Sox to drive his car after concluding that he just couldn't beat him. The Sox & Martin team ceased operation at the end of the 1975 season as a result of the energy crisis and dwindling factory support.

Famous German Flying Boat built in 1929. Dornier dreamed that this huge aircraft would become a trans-oceanic airliner with passengers traveling in oceanliner-like luxury. Total load was 170 passengers and crew, and the 12 engines developed 7200 HP.

ITC F-108 Rapier with Booster and Launching Platform, 1/89, 3663-149

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++++

$2250

Very rare kit from 1960 in exceptional condition. The box is superb with factory gloss and color, four solid corners, no price tags, factory tape marks only with no tape tears or any litho tears. It is free of creases and 'dishing.' The only wear is a very small amount of corner and edge wear and light scuffs. The box bottom tray is exceptional as well. Very interesting kit with raised and recessed panel line detail. The kit comes with the proposed operating zero-length launching system and fall-away rocket booster. The booster is detachable from the F-108 (if you wish). The aircraft has moving canards and the launcher elevates to launching position then back to storage position. Molded in the correct ivory plastic with metal parts for the elevation mechanism. The kit includes the correct decals and instructions as well. The decals, spring and two metal shafts are still packed in the ITC factory bag. The instructions are excellent with typical yellowing, factory folds only and no tears or edge wear. Inside, the kit is in factory-new condition. It has not been started. It has been inventoried complete with every plastic part, metal part, decals and instructions and even the Ideal Quality 'Inspection Slip.' The F-108 was a proposed interceptor and escort for the B-70 tri-sonic bomber and ITC was quick to capitalize on this new design. The kit was produced quickly and the rest is history. When the F-108 hit the shelves, it did not look like the design. Photos had been released by the US Air Force of the mock-up that were not available when ITC made the molds. This and the cancellation of the F-108 program lead to a very short release life for the Rapier and ITC quickly pulled it from the shelves. NOTE: shipping insurance is required.
