One Luscombe entry into the promised age for the four place family aircraft was the 1948 Sedan. Designed for simplicity, reliability and economy, the Sedan did all three very well. Crusing speed was 130 mph at 1850 RPM with a top speed of 150 mph. She landed at 60 mph and weighed 2,280 lbs. Range with a pilot, 600 pounds of people or cargo was over 500 miles.

The XB-47 first flew in 1947. The big jet's speed was equal to or greater than all current fighter aircraft, so it received radar-controlled twin 20mm cannons in the tail as the only guns. Through the use mid-air refueling, the B-47 gave SAC it's first all-jet force for nuclear or regular bomb delivery. Although it was tricky to fly, Stratojets flew into the mid 1960s. A program to strengthen the wings for low-level attack was responsible for prolonging the service life.

The small parts are still sealed in the factory bag and the parts that were never sealed have been inventoried complete, including instructions and excellent decals. Lincoln was based in Hong Kong. Plastic kits were not the primary business, but they established quite a line of them before discontinuing production in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Many molds moved to Kader, also in Hong Kong, who reissued the line. Many molds eventually found their way to the USA either through ATP (who purchased the excess kit stock when Kader sold out) or IM.

This model is nicely detailed and the later issues of this same kit state that it can be converted to a 'road racing' or slot car. Features detailed molded chassis underside with separately molded front and rear suspension, complete interior, top boot or top in the 'up' position and rear trunk mounted spare tire. Never started. Revell Olds Delivery Van Highway Pioneers - (Oldsmobile), 1/32, H44

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair+

$38

1953 early issue molded in white and black plastic and it includes colorful insignia for 'Gowland's Bakery.' This kit has never been started. All parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag and it includes the instructions. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Hawk Northrop P-61 Black Widow Solid Wood Kit With Maircraft Detail Parts and Clear Canopies, 1/48

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$38

For the advanced Hawk collector. Hawk was one of the few manufacturers making wooden kits to a constant scale of 1/48 as far back as the late 1920s. However, the company was innovative as it quickly included injection molded accessories in the late 1930s. This kit is from 1944. Almost all Hawk kits were put in colorful but generic boxes and the name of the model was stamped on the side - but the large 1/48 P-61 got it's own large box and special artwork! Contains cut-out wooden main airframe sections , decals, full sized plans, templates for wings and fuselage cross-section shapes, turned and shaped cowlings and two injection molded propellers. NOTE: Also includes the following Maircraft P-61 Black Widow Deluxe Kit parts: rubber tire set, metal landing gear struts, cast metal propellers and engine fronts, vacuform clear canopy set (3 canopies, one neatly taped off with the frames primed), decals, templates and two large, superb sets of plans. NOTE: this kit has minor work done in addition to the canopy frames: the fuselage has been taken to 80% of final shape and the job done is 'very good.' Inventoried and with the Maircraft kit, this model is 100% complete. Without it, the Hawk kit is missing the wheels and one prop blade.
