Features superbly cast resin hull and deck sections, three large trees of injection molded details, numerous cast metal details and precision cast metal biplane torpedo bombers and biplane fighters. There are extensive decals for the air wing and the ship. The initial idea for Akagi was to make three decks to speed up the take-off and landing of aircraft. Balboa Rio Grande Southern (RGS) Galloping Goose Three Truck Freight Brass Locomotive HOn3 Narrow Gauge, 1/87

Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$175

Beautiful, like-new condition brass narrow gauge locomotive, hand-built in Japan by the renown Balboa Scale models. It is still wrapped in the original plastic and all three pieces of the factory foam are intact and in 'excellent+' condition. This model has always been carefully stored in the original box. There is the slightest bit of wheel wear at 14x magnification, so it appears it was test run at one point - probably at Balboa. I see no broken parts and no modifications; it looks factory-new. Also includes the correct fold-out blue Balboa instruction sheet and factory sealed Balboa/Champ decals for the RGS Galloping Goose. The box top and tray are complete but both have wear and stains, so they grade low. I have no narrow gauge track, so I am unable to test the locomotive, so it is sold "As Is."

Aurora French Nieuport 11, 1/48, 101-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Exc+

$65

Still factory sealed. Rare, and even more so in sealed condition. Third issue with the original issue artwork still dated 1956 -but actually this kit is from the early/mid 1960s. This is the final issue to retain the original Jim Cox artwork. In this issue, the post-'Famous Fighters' blue oval has been placed in the upper left, allowing us to the see the complete artwork. (The first issue had the square Northern Lights logo in the lower left; the second issue replaced it with the early famous oval logo sunburst.) Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the box is graded 'Sealed Exc+' because there is very light foxing on the left side below the 2nd aircraft. Thanks to Eugene DuBey, we know some history on the aircraft that Aurora modeled. The tail # on the kit rudder is 1354, the number of a Nie 16 that served with "CAM de Dunquerke / St Pol sur Mer", 1916-17.

Hudson Miniatures 1911 Brush Model C Delivery Old Timers, 1/16

Wood and Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

$52

Dated 1949. Large scale and very well detailed for that time. Features numerous die-cut and machined/cut to shape wooden parts, beautiful plastic wheels, grill, steering wheel and other accessories, metal louvered hood, metal stock and parts and die-cut cardstock. Although all of Hudson's 1/16 kits are excellent, this one has even more detail than usual thanks to Hudson's engineers having access to the actual car owned by Mr. Austin Clark. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please NOTE that the Long Island Automotive Museum decals are fine but the Furniture ones are stuck hard to each other. The Brush Delivery Model C was manufactured by Brush Runabout Company, which was a division of the famous United States Motors. It sold for $650 and was powered by a one cylinder 64 HP engine linked to a gear-set type two speed + reverse multiple disc clutch transmission. Hudson Miniatures created a very popular line of automobile kits in a constant 1/16 scale shortly after WWII. The kits sold very well...so well that you could argue that Gowland & Gowland borrowed Hudson's subject matter for their ground-breaking 'Highway Pioneers.' The Hudson Miniatures 'Old Timers' even spawned a line of imitators, with Fador's 'Smallster' being one of the better in quality. Sales did drop on the appearance and popularity of the much smaller (and less accurate) Gowland/Revell 'Highway Pioneers' in 1951. When the all-injection molded Gowland kits proved not to be a passing fad, Hudson quickly planned and released his own all-plastic, small-scale competition called 'Lil' Old Timers Quickie Kits.' The kits were of excellent quality, but it was too little too late. Additionally, sales of the excellent wooden kits faltered further in the next few years with the introduction of accurate, 1/24 and 1/32 all-plastic cars in the mid 1950s. This forced Hudson to discontinue the wood kits and the plastic line was sold to Revell and subsequently re-released. Today, these excellent, big 1/16 kits are often the only model available of these early automobiles. In the mid 1960s Aurora thought so highly of Hudson Miniatures that they purchased the wood kit assets and released a very small number of these in all-plastic models.

Cleveland 1938 Turner-Laird Pesco Special Racer - Balsa Flying Model Airplane Kit, 1/16, SF-72

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$79

This is a Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. This is an early cardboard box issue with silver printing. All Cleveland kits were very complete and this one is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood and strip wood, covering material, pre-carved nose, partially machined wheel pants, finished wheels, ready to use prop blades, markings to convert the aircraft to the 1939 race winner, highest quality plans, and more. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. NOTE: there is light bug damage to the paperwork. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane business- Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter- Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.
