Monogram Curtiss Hawk 75 A-3 (P-36A) - Vichy French or Finland, 1/72, 74007

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

Sold

1991 issue of this quality kit. Finely molded with the excellent detail & fit that Monogram was famous for. It includes a large and extensive decal sheet for two aircraft. I believe that the very colorful French Hawk is Vichy; even the wing and cowling stripes are included for this scheme. The other aircraft is CU-560, which I believe to be Finnish, although the Finnish markings are 'post-war' (non-swastika), which was probably necessary since this issue was in Germany. Never started. It has been inventoried with all parts and includes decals and instructions. The Hawk P-36A has the dubious distinction of fighting on both sides and for more countries than any other plane in history during the opening years of WWII. This Hawk, one in a long progression of famous fighter aircraft, was the winner of a 1935 competition. The USAA Corps received the first aircraft in April of 1938 and the French ordered 100 aircraft in May of the same year. French Hawks shot down just over 30 German planes during the battle for France. The Germans captured the aircraft and sold them to Finland. Others were captured when the Germans overran Norway. In all over 800 Hawks were produced and served in China, Netherlands East Indies, Portugal, Great Britain, Thailand, Argentina and Peru. Although an excellent fighter in 1935, the Hawk was outclassed by the time the war started but when flown properly still gave a good account of itself.

Tamiya McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom II Early Production, 1/32, 60310-12000

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Incredibly well detailed and the finest 1/32 scale F-4 kit available. NOTE: this kit has minor assembly to the quality noted: intake cone to compressor fans (4 parts total) to 'professional' quality; panels A7 (exterior) and A10 (interior) assembled to top fuselage half to 'professional' quality; and intake splitter halves assembled (4 parts total) to 'very good' quality. Liquid glue was used and the part that shows looks excellent with no gaps; however, the parts that do not show (the back) and the inside at the back of the intake do have excess liquid cement on them. There no melting. The visible glue is why I graded that asseembly only 'very good.' The kit has been inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions present.

From Dusty Rhodes - The lively fuselage and nose art seen on the box art aircraft commemorates the historic rivalry between the Italian 12th Bomber Squadron (badge = three mice) and the 51st Fighter Squadron (badge = black cat). It particularly refers to a 1938 exercise in which the 51st's G-50s successfully intercepted a simulated attack by the 12th's SM-79s. Prior to the introduction of the G.50, the SM79s had easily outpaced the Cr-32s flown by the 'cats.
