AMCO Taylorcraft - 54 Inch Wingspan Flying Model - (Comet), 1/72, P10

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$85

1940 pre-war kit from AMCO, which was a division of Comet. This is a very large, stick-and-tissue scale flying model which features optional position or opening cabin doors, cockpit interior, movable controls, detachable wings, shock-proof landing gear, automatic wing jig, many sheets of high-quality printwood parts, factory cut stringers and spars, pre-drilled nose block, fully formed wheels and thrust button, wood and metal stock, clear windshield with frame & vent details printed on, cardstock sheet with instrument panel, 'leaf springs' for the tail skid and much more, a large gummed insignia sheet with N registration numbers and covering tissue. Includes superb full size plans with many additional drawings and notes to aid in assembly. The kit has no assembly but NOTE: the wing ribs have been very neatly adult cut out. Almost all are cut outside the lines for safety; only a few are cut on the lines (none are cut inside the lines). Inventoried and NOTE: missing 4 ribs which are easily made since there are duplicates present with the kit. Missing (1) of (2) C1 rib, (1) of (2) C rib and (2) of (8) E ribs. Otherwise inventoried complete with all other parts and paperwork present.

O-Lin Republic Seabee Amphibian - (Lindberg), 1/48, 503

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$119

Very rare kit. The Seabee was produced as a high performance sport amphibian. This is a very hard-to-fine original O-lin kit in the small box and advertisement for O-lin cement on the top. Produced in 1949 or just before. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. O-Lin (correctly spelled with a hyphen) was founded by Paul Lindberg and a Mr. Olsen - hence the company name. Although a producer of flying models in the 1930s, O-lin produced some of the earliest American injection molded kits in the late 1940s. In 1950 the partnership may have ended, because all branding was changed to Lindberg and Paul Lindberg. I have not seen a catalog of O-lin, but from some instructions we know that the kit line sometime during the late 1940s was #100 C&NW Pioneer Locomotive and Tender, #500 F-80C Shooting Star, #501 Piper Cub Special, #502 Stinson, #503 Republic Seabee, #504 Beechcraft Bonanza, #505 F-86 Sabre Jet Fighter, #506 Ercoupe Club-Air and #507 Ryan Navion. More kits were issued as the 1940s came to a close and O-Lin ended all production. At some time in 1950 all kits were branded Lindberg only. It is common to see the earliest Lindberg kits with un-marked O-Lin instructions and "O-Lin Products Chicago 25, Ill." on the bottom of the teardrop stand. Paul Lindberg was careful to use up all the old materials on hand at O-lin.

Air Lines kits are all Frog molds that the Lines Brothers imported to the USA between 1964-1966. The kits, decals and instructions were made in England, then imported to the USA where Testors created the boxes with the colorful trading cards on the back. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. In some cases, the specific car and owner is on the box. The model includes rubber tires, chrome plated, colored and clear parts. Cleveland Wedells Own Wedell-Williams 1933 Thompson Trophy Winner - 13 Inch Wingspan Free-Flight Rubber Powered Flying Aircraft, 1/24, D-47

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$75

Very rare and from the mid 1930s to the early 1940s. This is a Cleveland 'D' or dwarf kit. The term 'Dwarf' is just a bit deceptive, as it is Cleveland's designation for 1/24 scale. Most Cleveland kits were designated 'SF' or Scale Flying - 1/16 scale. The Dwarf kits were needed to fill a market demand for smaller flying models. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete and Dwarfs were no exception, containing very high quality balsa printwood, stringers & spars, fully formed wheels, covering tissue, a wood propeller that is about 90% carved and just needs final sanding, gray rigging thread (if required), metal and balsa stock as required and more. With Cleveland's famous high-quality plans. Amazingly, this kit is still 'factory tissue sealed' inside. When the Cleveland workers packed each kit, they wrapped them in tissue that effectively made a seal which has not been disturbed. Whoever buys it will be the first one to see the contents since it was packed in the factory over 90 years ago. Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane supply business - Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter - Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Adams Covered Wagon - (ex Miniature Masterpiece), 1/48, K213-88

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc

$85

Very rare 1958 issue. This highly detailed model includes wagon with detailed chassis, hitch & brakes, accessories & tools, display base, two Longhorn Oxen, horse, rider and two figures. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. This kit has an interesting history. 'Miniature Masterpieces' was formed through an alliance of Lew Glaser (Revell) and Steve Adams (Adams Action Models) in 1953. Although the molds were made at Adams and it had the appearance of an independent company, the firm was run by Revell down to the prototypes being made at the Revell plant. Originally there was no evidence of the parent company on the surface. The State Coach of England was the first kit, issued in 1953. More kits of excellent quality followed. Revell completely took over the line in 1954 and in that year and the next, kits were labeled 'Revell' with a 'Miniature Masterpiece' label on the box top also. However, Adams broke the relationship with Revell in the later 1950s and began making kits under the Adams name with the original molds.
