Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$215

Rare 1966 hardbox issue of this very large, two feet long (1/87 scale) classic commercial whaler. Well detailed for that time. This was one of a series of large-scale sailing ships made by Aurora to appeal to the serious ship modeler. Molded in correct dark wood, black, tan, ivory and white. Features billowing sails, metal anchor chains, running and standing rigging, molded ratlines and display stand. It has not been started. The parts that were factory sealed are all still factory sealed. Only the white sail parts were never factory sealed, and they have been inventoried complete. Includes all other parts, decals, flag sheet, metal chain, rigging thread and instructions. The Wanderer was built in Mattapoiset, MA in 1878 and was the last sailing whaleship to depart the US on a whaling voyage. She sailed from New Bedford on 24 August 1924 and was driven ashore on Cuttyhunk Island by a gale the next day and became a total loss. (from Joe Greenley)

Sanwa Mosquito MkIV - 'Cellovision' Issue, 1/90, 167

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$155

Very Rare. Early, colorful issue from the late 1950s. The kit is dated by the 'Sanwa Plastic' logo, which was normally used in the late 1950s up to 1960. Sanwa clearly copied Lindberg in making this a Cellovision-style package; the back has the clear panel still intact as well as a trading card style illustration - even many of the same colors are used. Molded in green, black and clear. Inside, the model is factory new - all the parts and decals are still in the factory sealed clear bags. The decals are flat and 'excellent' with slight yellowing as the only flaw and the instructions are in 'very good' condition. The box has a crush on the lower long side panel and back as shown. Sanwa was one of Japan's earliest post-WWII kit producers, making model kits in the 1950s; some sources say 1955. Kits were marketed under Sanwa and Tokyo Plamo, with the general consensus being the the later logo came out around 1960 or later. Production ended in 1964, making all Sanwa kits rare and collectible. The entire line was extensive. It included very small scale tanks (some that were motorized), battleships in three scales with the larger ones motorized with dual prop drive, slot cars, civil sport boats and an electric outboard, a full line of hand gun models that actually shot plastic bullets, two fighter groups and bomber groups (probably Monogram), several different lines of scale aircraft, missile kits, scale (static) car models of early Japanese automobiles, at least 7 flying model aircraft that had electric and rubber motors, a 'Super Control Stand' P-51 that moved with a joystick and had an electric propeller and sound unit, two different lighthouses and a windmill, an air cushion boat, motor cycles, a diving submarine (electric) and a working (rubber band) George Washington Class SSBN and even a garden tractor with an electric motor. Just before going out of business, Sanwa issued some kits in conjunction with the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games - these kits even included a copy of an Olympic medal.

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good+

$179

Rare one-and-only 1960 issue that contains both the DH-4 and Curtis JN-4 Jenny. Aurora really went out of the way to make this a special kit; however, it did not sell well and was retired after one year. Features completely new box artwork, a DH-4 molded in gloss dark green and black, the JN-4 molded in gloss bright yellow and black, great custom decal sheets for both aircraft and special 'Barnstormer' instructions for each aircraft. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts present and includes decals and instructions. Instructions are both in 'excellent+' condition and the decal sheets are both completely flat (no rolling) with typical age yellowing as the only flaw.

The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions. Berkeley is a very famous manufacturer of flying model kits from the Golden Age of flying aviation, about 1932-1954. Founded in 1933 by William Effinger, the company was quite progressive in producing quality kits - it was likely the Berkeley 'Buccaneer' was the first gas powered model in kit form. In the later 1930s, Effinger acquired the services of a very talented Henry Struck. Struck went on to design numerous award-winning kits under the Berkeley name. Berkeley weathered the post WWII recession and emerged as a major kit producer in the late 1940 and 1950s. These were great years for Berkeley and they produced some incredible and large kits. The company went bankrupt in about 1960 however. Fox engines (Duke Fox) bought the company and released the kits alongside his own FOX models and engines. This arrangement did not last, and in the early 1960s the Berkeley name disappeared from hobby shop shelves.

Lindberg Russian Mig-19, 1/48, 521-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair++

$75

Rare, earlier 1950s hardbox issue with fantastic Ray Gaedke artwork. This is a large scale (1/48) 'theoretical' Mig-19. The aircraft never existed in this configuration. However, Aurora made one almost just like it; it is believed that both manufacturers used the same magazine drawing as the basis for their Mig-19 models. Molded in silver and clear. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts decals and instructions. NOTE: the box is graded 'fair++' because of significant general wear. Lindberg is a company with a fascinating history The original 'Lindberg Line' stretches back to the 1930s when Paul Lindberg drew plans for famous modeling magazines and marketed his balsa wood 'stick and tissue' by urging dealers to carry the '...Complete Lindberg Line'. After the war, Lindberg and Olsen had a strong hand in early United States injection molded kit development. Please see the article located on this website about early USA plastic kit manufacturers.

Renwal See-Thru SSBN 618 Thomas Jefferson Polaris Nuclear Submarine, 1/200, 653-349

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

$265

Classic 1950s boxart at it's finest, and this is one the best examples of this kit that I have ever had. The box has like new color and gloss, four solid corners and no tape, price tags or tape/tag marks. It is superb but not mint due to light corner and edge wear as shown. Large 24 inch long kit with clear right half that is hinged to open. The Jefferson is the only Renwal submarine that has the clear hull half - all others have a gray hinged half. The clear half is in incredible 'mint' factory fresh condition. It is not yellowed and still wrapped in the original tissue paper (although I have protected it further for shipping). Heavily detailed interior and actual 'launching' Polaris missile from a spring loaded tube. The kit has never been started. Inside, it is like new. Renwal sealed the majority of the parts in a factory clear bag; that bag is still factory sealed. The few parts that were not sealed have been inventoried complete including 'very good++' decals, excellent instructions and even the Renwal factory inspection slip.
