Pyro 1914 Mercer Raceabout, 1/32, C452-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$39

1967 Pyro issue from original molds. In the early to mid 1960s the Pyro company chose many of their kit subjects based more on historical significance than popularity. Luckily for us, Pyro not only made these kits but did an excellent job for the time. The Pyro car models are based on the actual cars that Pyro engineers and designers had access to. In some cases, the specific car and owner is on the box. This car is an exact reproduction of the car owned by Ralph T. Buckley, owner of the Antique Auto Shop of New Jersey. This shop specialized in rebuilding Mercer automobiles to factory new condition. The car was part of the Gene Zimmerman display of over 150 such cars in Holiday West PA. The model includes rubber tires, brass plated parts, colored injection molded parts and clear parts. Features detailed chassis, complete motor and interior and a removable hood or 'bonnet.' Molded in deep red, brass plating, clear and with rubber tires. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Fire Force South African Defense Force Eland 90 Armoured Car, 1/35

Resin Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$89

Very rare. Nicely molded high-definition resin kit with very good overall detail. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes instructions. Painting and insignia details are included. The Eland was the standard armoured car of the SADF and was originally developed as an improved Panhard. The Panhards were almost completely unsatisfactory; South Africa rebuilt them, gaining valuable experience along the way. When replacements were needed, they produced the local Eland series. This was one of the first all-South African manufacturing and design programs to be undertaken after WW2. Elads were superbly suited to the terrain and tactics of the SADF and proved their worth over and over in combat. Rhodesian operated them also.

Features high quality die-cut balsa sheet parts, stripwood and spars, fully formed wire landing gear struts, finished wheels, other wood and metal stock as required, light plastic engine, exhaust and pilot bust, clear dual die-cut windscreens, rubber motor, plastic prop, a big set of decals, covering tissue and excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. Some parts have been professionally punched out but all are accounted for. A professional draftsman drew some assembly guide lines on the plans (wings only) Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had the action features and included everything needed to complete the model.

Guillows Mitsubishi Zero - 27 inch Wingspan for Free Flight or R/C Conversion, 1/16, 404

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's survived the post WWII slump by creating many inexpensive profile flying rubber powered aircraft and gliders in the 1950s (along with North Pacific) which became famous - some are still available today. The stick and tissue lines have been updated with laser cut parts and are still in production as of 2009.

These aircraft were common in the 1930s when the sport of free-flight model airplanes reached it's zenith. It was not uncommon for these models to fly for 45 minutes or more on rubber power alone - many flew out of site, and it became common practice to write your name, address and phone number on the covering tissue. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
