Revell 1929 Duesenberg Model J Highway Pioneers - US Antique Series, 1/32, H72-69

Original issue dated 1954 in rare investment-grade 'near mint' condition inside and out. The US Antique series was the first one to have real box art for the exact kit inside. This kit is from old hobby shop stock and has never been sold retail until now. Inside the box, it has not been started. All the parts are still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. Includes instructions. This is from the issues produced with Gowland & Gowland as it carries their 'balloon' logo on the box top a the lower right. Not long after this, the Gowland logo would disappear completely, leaving only the Revell logo. It is also worth noting that this is one of the first non-generic Highway Pioneers boxes. Earlier boxes were all the same, with the kit number and car stamped on the side, usually with a red or black rubber stamp. This box is completely dedicated to the Duesenberg kit, and even has advertisements for very early Pre-S issue Revell 1954 ship and aircraft kits on the long sides. Pyro Auburn 1935 Supercharged 851 Boattail Speedster, 1/25, 228

Rare true first issue with the 'black' box style and beautiful art. The '35 Auburn weighed 4200 lbs. and was one of the few cars of that time to have hydraulic brakes. Power came from a 150hp (@4000) supercharged engine with three inch exhaust pipes that easily sped the car to over 100 mph. Ab Jenkins set a record with a stock issue 851 at Bonneville Salt Flats in July of 1935, and became the first one to pilot a stock car for over 12 hours at an average of over 100 mph. Molded in gloss deep red plastic. Features detailed engine, hinging/opening hood and good interior detail. Never started. The parts are all still factory sealed in the original 'krinkle' bag. With instructions. This was one of Pyro's first car kits. On the side, there are color illustrations of the Lincoln Continental, Duesenburg Roadster J, Cord Convertible and Pierce Silver Arrow. Interestingly, the Duesenburg and Pierce Arrow in 1/24 scale were projected; for one reason or another Pyro never cut the molds so they were never issued.

NOTE: this kit has neat minor subassembly. The following are built (but not attached to anything else): 1. Engine, fan, radiator and axle (built to 'professional' quality), 2. Wheels halves ('professional' quality), 3. Front fender halves ('near mint+' quality). There is no other assembly and zero painting. Inventoried and the actual car is complete but NOTE: missing the figure. With instructions. This was one of Pyro's first car kits. On the side, there are color illustrations of the Lincoln Continental, Duesenburg Roadster J, Cord Convertible and Pierce Silver Arrow. Plastic model kits were not new in 1951, but successful mass marketing of plastic kits was new. The sensation swept the country, and Gowland & Revell could not make the kits fast enough. The fact that the public was buying these models shocked the successful hobby establishment. One such manufacture was Hudson Miniatures. In the 1940s, Hudson had established a name in making 1/16 scale 'Old Timer' models of automobiles. These were excellent kits with wood and metal parts, but a high degree of skill was required to carve and finish the wood parts. In the late 1940s, they added some injection molded plastic parts (usually acetate wheels) to the series but did not consider a completely plastic kit. When Hudson saw what was happening with the Highway Pioneers, he began to design his own 1/32 scale line called 'Lil Old Timers', which hit the stores in 1954. An early paper fold-out catalog shows 18 models including some real gems like the 1910 International Harvester Passenger Car, 1911 Brush Delivery Truck and 1906 Columbia Electric Car just to name a few. The line was bought by Revell a short time after it's release, and Revell did reissue some (but not all) of the kits. As you would expect from Hudson, this is a nice kit with excellent moldings and detail for the time. The Mercer was perhaps the most famous sports car of it's day, and it can be successfully argued that it was America's first sports car. The 30 horsepower 'T' head 4 cylinder engine sped it along at over 80 miles per hour. A 1914 Mercer clocked 112 mph at Daytona Beach - no mean feat for that age.

Megow Ranger Class B Gas Model - 44 Inch Wingspan Early Free Flight Aircraft, E-22

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Very, very rare. From the late 1930s or pre-war 40s. Fred Megow once stated that they lost money on the big gas models and sold very few; they were done for status only. This is a one owner kit; the box top and tray are in good condition given the age of the model; that stain on the litho lowers the overall grade to 'good'. The box top and bottom are 100% intact, never repaired and have great corners. Inside, the kit has never been touched. The small parts are still in the sealed paper envelope and it appears that the plans have never been unfolded. Includes quality printwood, stock balsa, factory cut stringers and spars (still held in a bundle together with the factory rubber bands), balsa and hardwood stock cut to general shape, fully formed wooden wheels, fully formed wire landing gear struts, sealed hardware packet and more. It is complete with all parts and plans. I do not see any covering tissue, but some models did not come with it (and it may be in the never opened plans).

Rare kit from 1977 and an exceptional model for that time. Measures 20.5 inches long when assembled. Very highly detailed with over 200 parts molded in color and a very large number of those are chrome plated. Includes optional parts so you can make the classic roadster or the highboy. Builds up a realistic rolling chassis just like the real car, with all suspension, driveline and exhaust parts present. Features operating doors and trunk lid, operating windshield with wind wings, super detailed Pontiac engine with six Stromberg carburetors, individual spark plugs and ignition wires, removable hood, detailed rolled and pleated interior and trunk, dash panel with S-W instruments, chrome plated under-carriage and Le Mans wheels, realistic rubber tires, custom chrome firewall with instruments, plated dropped front axle, flexible radiator hoses, optional top with detailed top bow frame and much more. Inside, the kit has never been started. All of the chrome parts were factory sealed and are still in the factory sealed bags and in superb condition. The parts that were never factory sealed are inventoried and NOTE: missing two tiny spark plugs (easily made) and #78 main steering gear (not easily made, but does not show.
