Aurora Curtiss Hawk P-6E, 1/43, 116-130

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Mint

$49

In amazing, investment-grade 'mint' condition. The box has perfect color and gloss, four solid corners, no fading or torn litho and no tape or price tags - it has no more wear than if it were just removed from the shrink wrap. The kit is dated 1958, but this is obviously a later issue as the Aurora logo does not say 'Famous Fighters' in the border and has no sunburst. Due to the 130 price extension, it is most likely from later 1960s. Features movable rudder, elevators and wing ailerons, cockpit with pilot, seat, instrument panel, gun sight and feet stirrups, auxiliary gas tank and rotating prop & wheels. Molded in gloss dark green and clear. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including decals and instructions.

Cleveland Boeing F4B-3 - Flying Scale Aircraft (F4B), 1/16, SF-29

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$75

This is a legendary Cleveland 'SF' or 'Scale Flying' model in museum scale of 1/16. This is an early cardboard box issue with silver printing. All Cleveland kits were exceptionally complete for the time, and this is no exception. Features very high quality balsa printwood, strip wood, fully formed wood main and tail wheels, carved thrust bearing, prop blades, blocks, wires and other wood as required, covering material, highest quality plans and three color sheets of insignia. The model has not been started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. NOTE: there is bug damage to the insignia sheets. The Cleveland Model and Supply Company played a pivotal role in the development of true scale models. In 1909 Bleriot's English Channel flight caused a surge in aviation and model aircraft around the globe. Several companies were ideally positioned to take advantage of the aviation craze. In the USA, Wading River Manufacturing Co. (1909), White Aeroplane (1911), Ideal Model Aeroplane (1911), Broadfield Model Aeroplanes (1919) were among these pioneers, offering everything from plans and parts to complete kits and ARF models. Lindbergh's 1927 crossing of the Atlantic Ocean caused an even bigger world-wide phenomenon called "The Aviation Craze" that extended up to the start of World War II. Many companies such as Megow, Guillow's and others started right around the time of Lindbergh's flight. Some of these models flew and flew well, but they all had one thing in common - were generally not accurate scale representations. In 1929, a youngster named Ed Packard had a very advanced dream- to produce incredibly accurate, true scale models that flew perfectly. This radical idea established the world's longest running single-owner (77 years) model airplane business- Cleveland Model and Supply Company. To this day, Cleveland models are treasured as the most accurate flying scale models produced. The fact that Mr. Packard started and successfully grew this business during The Great Depression is a testament to his ideals and business skill. I highly suggest the excellent book called 'Aviation's great Recruiter- Cleveland's Ed Packard' by H.L. (Herm) Schreiner. It is an excellent history of the man, his company and the times of the Golden Age of Model Aviation.

Hawk 1902 Rambler Model C Runabout - Highway Classics, 1/24, 634-60

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

$79

Rare kit dated 1964. Hawk did not issue many automobile kits, but when they did they chose interesting subjects. 1/24 scale and molded in silver plastic with black wheels. The kit has never been started. Inventoried 100% complete including instructions. This is a very early car with an interesting history. The 1902 Rambler was the first car offered for sale by the Thomas B. Jeffery Company. This later became Nash Motors, which was then later purchased to become part of American Motors. The Model C had a one cylinder 8 HP engine and could speed along at 25 mph. Originally it had wire wheels, but these proved too fragile for the state of roads in the very early 1900s - the company soon changed these to wooden spoke wheels, which are represented on this model. The car had tiller steering and brakes on the rear wheel only. And this kit has a very interesting history also! The molds were originally cut by Kaysun in Japan @ 1954. The kits were a huge advance over the 'Highway Miniatures' and if put side to side put the Revell offerings to shame. I do not know of other kits from Kaysun beyond the two cars. Later in the 1950s Strombecker purchased these molds and issued them in very colorful boxes. However, Strombecker discontinued all plastic kit production in the late 1950s. In 1964 Hawk somehow located these molds. Always with an eye to quality, the Mates brothers knew these were perfect kits for their expanding line of models. The called the Rambler and Hupmobile 'Highway Classics' and issued them in full color boxes that sported photos of the actual built models. There were at least three issues; one at 50 cents, one at 60 cents and one with a special case. However good the kit, the subject matter simply did not catch on and eventually the kits were withdrawn from the line. Polks Hobby Modelcraft found and purchased the molds in 1982 but did not issue the kits. In 1988 Mandrill Manufacturing purchased the Strombecker molds and it is possible these two Kaysun kits is among them.

$32

From the 1960s. Wide 'White' box issue with white side panels and action-packed artwork showing part of a box formation of B-24s at the moment of "Bombs Away!" Guns blaze at attacking fighters while flak burst close in. One B-24 is going down with the starboard wing in flames. This was a well detailed kit for that time. Guns elevate and turrets move, ailerons, elevators and rudders move, the landing gear retracts and extends, props rotate, has 'good' cockpit detail, a crew of 8 and optional position crew entry door and ladder. Please NOTE the box is very rough, but the kit inside has not been started and is still sealed in the factory parts bag. With decals and instructions.
