Life-Like Civil War Blockade Runner (Cutter 'Lavinia') - (Ex-Pyro), 1/124, 09362

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Sealed Good+

Sale Pending
Email for availability.

Still factory sealed. Very early Life-Like issue after Pyro sold out all plastic model molds and remaining stock. Actually, this is a Pyro box with 'Life-Like' stickers neatly placed over the Pyro logo and part number on the top and all four sides. After the initial issue, Pyro re-marketed the Harriett Lane as the "Lavinia," which was what the Confederates renamed her when she was captured and made her a blockage runner. Very nicely molded full hull kit. Usually molded in white, black, light wood tan and green (hull) (cannot confirm, it is sealed). Includes full rigging diagrams. The Harriett Lane was built in 1858 and named for President Buchanan's niece. The cutter was 180 feet long with a 30 foot beam and displacement was 670 tons. Armament consisted of 3-9 inch Dahlgrens and 1-30 lb Parrot Rifle. She was built at a time when steam was not fool-proof, so she is rigged for full sails. Harriett Lane served as the Presidential Yacht, the fired the first shot of the Civil War. She chased down blockade runners until January 1, 1863 when she was attacked by five Confederate Gun Boats and boarded. She was captured and renamed the Lavinia and was used as a blockade runner. Near the end of the war she caught fire at sea, and put into Havana Harbor. Federal forces took her again and rebuilt her in 1869 as the bark 'Elliot Ritchie'. She was abandoned at sea in 1884.

Sterling Stearman PT-17 Kaydet Dusts Crops in Flight - 22 Inch Wingspan for R/C / Control Line / Free Flight, A2

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Very nicely produced stick-and-tissue model that actually releases 'crop dust' in flight. Can be flown with rubber, electric or gas control line or converted to RC with modern lightweight systems. Features high quality die-cut balsa sheet parts, stripwood and spars, fully formed wire landing gear struts, finished wheels, other wood and metal stock as required, light plastic engine, exhaust and pilot bust, clear dual die-cut windscreens, rubber motor, plastic prop, a big set of decals, covering tissue and excellent full size plans with detailed instructions. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. Please NOTE there is some bug damage to the backing paper only on the decals. The actual transfers are free of damage. The box is only 'fair' and not collectible; the kit inside is fine and an ideal builder. Sterling was a famous manufacturer dating back to the 1930/40s flying model craze. Although they continued to produce kits for decades after the flying model slump following World War II, they eventually fell victim to the general lack of interest in modeling that occurred in the early 1980s. I always considered Sterling kits to be deluxe kits as they had the action features and included everything needed to complete the model.

Monogram RB-66A Destroyer Blue Box Issue, 1/83, PA204-130

When the Air Force phased out the B-66, they converted many into ECM aircraft, hence the RB-66A. Monogram seized this opportunity as a new lease on life for the B-66 molds and the result was this issue as RB-66 aircraft were being used in Vietnam in the late 1960s.

Otaki Dornier Do-X Flying Boat - (DoX), 1/144, OT2-17-1200

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Very nicely molded and detailed. Kit has over 110 parts and a 13 inch wingspan. The kit has never been started. The parts are still in the internal factory sealed bags and includes decals and instructions. The Do-X was a very famous German Flying Boat built in 1929. Dornier dreamed that this huge aircraft would become a trans-oceanic airliner with passengers traveling in ocean liner-like luxury. A tour of South and North America was conducted, but orders never materialized due to excessive fuel consumption and a lack of power. Total load was 170 passengers and crew, and the 12 engines developed 7200 HP.

Pyro Monitor United States Ironclad, C258-79

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good

Sale Pending
Email for availability.

Rare early issue of the Monitor alone. Usually this kit is only seen in the release that contains it and the Merrimac. Great hardbox artwork by AJ Rudisill from the late 50s. The Monitor was one of two American Civil war ships that spelled the end of the wooden ship age. In March of 1862, the Merrimac put to sea to raise the Union Blockade off the St. James. There she sank the Cumberland and Congress. The Monitor, the Union's only ironclad and the first turret ship, was rushed to the scene. The epic battle between the two iron-clad ships ended in a draw, with the Merrimac suffering a little more damage than the Monitor. The Merrimac was blown up to avoid capture; the Monitor sank in a gale in 1862. The Monitor is 10 inches long when built, is a full hull model and includes a display stand. Never started. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions. Please NOTE: the instructions have a short closed tear and a small stain from old tape (which has fallen off); also, one blade is broke from the prop at the base but the blade is present for an easy repair. Although dated, the Pyro Monitor and Merrimac kits are generally considered superior to the Lindberg models of the same ships.

Comet North American F-100 Super Sabre - 12.7 Inch Wingspan Flying Balsa Airplane - Coke Bottle Issue, R10-59

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Rare. 1950s issue flying model with the box art showing a Coke next to the young builders snack plate and finished product. Kit features traditional wood/tissue construction with high quality printwood, stripwood, wooden stock as required, clear vacuform canopy, fully formed wheels, covering tissue and detailed full size plans/building instructions with notes on how to fly the model. The model has not been started. Inventoried complete. Comet was a famous manufacturer of stick and tissue flying and static models. In the 1930s Great Depression, they lead the low-priced kit revolution with the "Dime Scale" kits and famous advertisements in Model Airplane News magazine and others. Comet reached it's peak in the 1930s when they acquired the services of Carl Goldberg. Goldberg was a highly accomplished modeler with articles in Model Airplane News and famous designs that won him several National level competitions in the 1930s and beyond. (Carl Goldberg went on to found his own company and produced well designed and popular free-flight and RC aircraft). Comet survived the post World War economic slump and continued kit production until they were bought out by long-time competitor Guillow's in 1998.
