1953 issue, the first year for the 'Series Three' Highway Pioneers. The box is excellent, and the inside has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and instructions. Molded in deep burgundy plastic. Before the 1950s 'model building' never made the top 10 list of boy's activities. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream. Shortly after the turn of the century, many dedicated modelers built flying or static airplanes, ship, train, automotive or other subjects. Basic kits existed, but the majority of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s. The phenomenon of the Revell/Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' car kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real car. The Highway Pioneers series lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the early 1960s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys.

Rare and highly detailed kits from original Taimei molds. These are unique and accurate kits. The original internal frame structure and details of the aircraft is built from injection molded plastic. When complete, it is covered with a very strong fabric which is included. The result is a very realistic aircraft. Never started. Factory sealed bags complete with instructions and covering material. Fuji also released this kit from ex-Taimei molds, and since Entex lists the kits as being made in Japan (and uses Fuji's box art), it is likely that Fuji molded the kits for Entex. Some of these molds found their way to Renwal, where they may have been the inspiration for the famous Aeroskin series.

Hard-to-find first issue in the 1968 hardbox. This kit was issued in conjunction with the TV series 'The Invaders' and represents the spaceship on the series. The box has like-new color and gloss, solid corners and no tape, price tags or litho tears. Minor edge wear is the only flaw. The kit features retractable landing legs, detailed interior with four figures, removable top and optional clear top. Inside, the kit is mint. The parts are the original gloss medium gray. The model has never been started and has been inventoried complete with all parts and instructions. There are several differences between this first edition and the second release. The first one has the original box artwork, the clear top and gray 'lights' for the bottom. There is no stand in this issue. The second issue does not have a clear top, has red-tinted clear 'lights' for the underside, a display stand and 6 additional aliens for the ground base.

These kits are good candidates for the first line of 1/72 model aircraft produced in the USA. Although not as old as the Frog injection molded 1/72 scale kits, these solid wood and metal models were made in the late 1930s or 1940s to 1/6 inch scale - which is commonly known today as exactly 1/72 scale. Maircraft announced kits G-1 through G-6 with 'more to come', but it is likely that no others were produced as Maircraft was out of business by 1948. The highpoint of the Little Gems series was the plans and instructions. Wonderfully illustrated and written, they show step by step how to carve and contour the model and how to finish it. Includes excellent three view full size drawings and templates. The kit consists of balsa wood with printed outlines for all parts and a metal parts sheet with wheels and propeller. This kit has never been started and is complete with all parts and plans/instructions. Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model), and eventually even made these 1/72 scale series 'Little Gems'.

This kit is from quality Airfix molds and is one of the MPC issues with custom decals and the unique clear modular display stand. This kit has never been started. It is either still in the internally sealed factory bag or has been inventoried with all parts, partial decals and instructions. NOTE: the stock decals are all present, but the 'custom' decals are missing. Dates from the late 1960s/early 1970s. Note that this issue still has 'Craft Master' under the MPC logo. Before this, MPC was marketing Airfix kits under the Craftmaster name in the USA. This continued for several issues and was finally discontinued although MPC continued to distribute Airfix and their own models.

Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Blue, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.
