Hawk Lockheed Constellation L-749 - One Piece 1948 Box Issue, 1/140, 702

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

$175

Very rare. This kit is from 1949, and even predates the Gowland & Gowland 'Highway Pioneers' that started the plastic model craze in the United States. Hawk was a producer of wooden kits (with with metal details) before and after WWII, and was one of the handful of manufacturers to produce such kits (known as 'solids') in a consistent 1/48 scale. Hawk made aircraft, ship and train models in this fashion. The very first injection molded aircraft kits in the United States were made by Varney or Hawk in 1946, but they did not catch on quickly. Hawk was always an innovative and quality-driven company, and they took a gamble on injection molded kit well before they were popular. As early as 1946 they issued the 1/48 Curtiss R3C-1 with wheels. Like Varney's Fleet Sub and PT-17, they were shunned by hobby dealers. Hawk persisted with the 'Evolution of the Jet' gift set in 1948 and issued several kits - the Supermarine S6B, Gee-Bee, Howard Ike, Laird (all in acetate) and the F-84G and this Constellation (both in polystyrene). All were in the two-tone one-piece box. This model is molded in the correct glossy medium gray with a unique early stand. The model was issued with instructions but did not come with decals. The instructions tell you that '...the plane is molded in the proper base color, and if you intend to paint your favorite air-line markings be sure to use good enamel (not lacquer). The kit has never been started. The contents are either in the factory sealed bag or have been inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

TMY WACO Biplane 29.5 Inch Gas Model Airplane

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

$275

Very rare. This is an early Japanese export kit from TMY in Tokyo, probably dating right around 1960. It was clearly intended for control line operation. The kit has a very high degree of prefabrication for that time, featuring fully cut and ready to assemble plywood fuselage bulkheads, fully cut balsa wing rigs, cut out (but final sanding required) wheels pants, tail planes and all other wood parts, strip wood, formed wire main gear strut, balloon-type main wheels and solid tail wheel, an extensive (still sealed) hardware packet, wood for sheeting, silk covering material (still sealed) and full size plans. The kit has never been started. The internal condition is exceptional; many parts are still attached to the orange factory display board with string; even more are still wrapped with the factory green tape. The kit has been inventoried complete with all parts and plans. It must be shipped insured.

MPM Kawasaki Ki-64 Rob Heavy Fighter, 1/72, 72119

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Good-

$29

Sale Pending
Email for availability.

The Ki-64 experimental heavy fighter was one of the most advanced and unusual Japanese wartime aircraft. The powerplant was the 2350 hp Kawasaki Ha-201, which was two Ha-40 12 cylinder liquid-cooled engines mounted in tandem and driving two contra-rotating propellers. The forward prop, driven by the rear engine, was variable pitch while the rear prop was driven by the front engine and was fixed pitch. The steam vapor cooling system used water and the wing and flap surfaces for cooling. Five flights were made starting in December 1943. On the last flight, a fire started in the rear engine. An emergency landing saved the airplane, but repairs were not completed before the end of the war. Limited edition injection molded kit. Features very fine recessed panel lines, vac canopy and full decals. Never started. Factory sealed bag with decals and instructions.

MPC Hot Rodder's Ghost Of America Stroker McGurk - Original Issue, 104-100

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

$75

Rare original issue from 1964; not the common reproduction. This one is in investment-grade condition as well. Stroker McGurk was created and drawn by Tom Medley for Hot Rod Magazine. The popularity of the character gave MPC an idea - why not make a model? While an excellent kit, it proved to be a poor marketing choice. The kit was far less popular than the cartoons. As a result, the model was quickly and quietly withdrawn from production, making the originals very rare. The box is in amazing 'Near Mint' condition. the only flaws are very slight edge wear on the upper right corner and a slight crease 1/2" long. Inside, the kit is as new. It is molded in dark red and chrome plate. The chrome parts are in 'mint' condition. The kit has never been started. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes 'near mint' condition decals and instructions. No scale is given but it is large; the body measures 10 inches long when assembled.
