Airfix Fairey Rotodyne, 1/72, 04002-8

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG+

Sold

Nicely done kit for it's time. Features movable main rotors, moving elevators and rudders, opening rear taches, good cockpit detail, crew of two, optional position boarding stair/door and more. The kit has never been started. Internal factory sealed bag including decals and instructions. The Rotodyne first flew in 1957. The purpose was to create the first true vertical take-off airliner that could operate from an area no larger than two tennis courts with a full load. The Rotodyne flew at up to 191 MPH with a range of 450 miles and a payload of 48 passengers or 5 tons of freight. Despite the excellent performance and a larger design in the works, the RAF never placed an order and BEA never placed a firm order. The project was discontinued in 1962.

Greenbank Ryan M-1 Mailplane (Hisso or J-4B) Colorado Airways or Pacific Air Transport, 1/72

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Very rare kit - boxed version. Has optional parts to build one of two versions, the Hisso or J-4b powered. Complete injection molded kit in two colors with rubber wheels, full decals for US Mail-Colorado Airways or Pacific Air Transport Air Mail, instructions and painting guide. The kit has never been started and all parts are still sealed in the factory bag with the decals. Includes full instructions. The M-1 holds two very special places in American Aviation History. First, it is the first production monoplane and played a key roll in early airmail. In the 1920s, Government contracts for flying airmail on a $/mile basis was about the only thing keeping commercial aviation alive and growing. In 1926, the M-1 was the first aircraft to fly with PAT, Pacific Air Transport. PAT linked Seattle to LA with mail contracts. The other unique item is that this was the Ryan NYPs (Lindbergh's aircraft) father. When Lindy visited Ryan in 1927, he flew the M-1. He requested an airplane that was similar but larger - thus the NYP was born and aviation history was made.

Revell 1914 Stutz Bearcat - Highway Pioneers, 1/32, H38-89

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: Exc++

Sold

1960 issue hardbox with full artwork; Highway Pioneers prior to this year simply had generic artwork and an ink stamped name on the box ends was the only way to identify the contents. This kit has never been started. All parts are still sealed in the factory bag. Includes instructions. These kits have a fascinating history. Hobbies were nothing new to America in the 1930s/40s, but they were not mainstream and never made the top 10 list of boys activities. Spurred on by the nation-wide aviation craze in the 1920s, many became modelers and built flying or static wooden models of airplanes, ships, trains, automotive and other subjects. Basic kits existed, but many of these models were built from scratch, which demanded a high talent level developed from years of experience. That changed in the early 1950s when the Gowland & Gowland/Revell Highway Pioneers became the sales sensation of the year. Demand was so great that the factories could not keep up and almost overnight 'model building' was mainstream. The phenomenon of the 'Highway Pioneers' kits was a significant force in proving that model building as a hobby could have mass appeal, provided that the kits were easy enough to build and finish. These 1/32 scale vehicles fit the bill: they could be built in an hour after dinner and looked much like the real cars. The success of the Highway Pioneers lead to the production of other subjects in plastic and the effect was revolutionary. By the late 1950s, model building was the #1 past time of American boys...and many adult males too!

Entex Antoinette 1908 Monoplane Early Birds - (Ex-Taimei), 1/72, 8520B

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG

Sold

Rare and highly detailed kit from original Taimei molds. Unique and accurate. The internal frame structure and details of the aircraft is built from injection molded plastic. When complete, it is covered with a very strong fabric which is included. The result is a very realistic aircraft. Never started. Inventoried complete with all parts, covering material and instructions. Fuji also released this kit from ex-Taimei molds, and since Entex lists the kits as being made in Japan, it is likely that Fuji molded the kits for Entex. Some of these molds found their way to Renwal, where they may have been the inspiration for the famous Aeroskin series.
