Aurora Ford V-8 Commercial Truck with 40 Ton Flat Bed Trailer and Power Shovel, 1/64, 683-98

Plastic Model Kit,   Box Condition: NM

Very rare. The rectangular 'The Aurora Line' full color logo dates this kit to 1954/1955. Of the early Aurora vehicles, this kit is 'holy grail'. Very light wear is the only flaw. Inside, the kit is as it left the factory. All parts are still sealed in the factory 'crinkle' bags. Molded in orange (shovel), dark blue (truck) and bright yellow (trailer) and with black rubber tires. Includes decals and instructions in 'exc+++' condition.

Maircraft Bellanca Cruisair - Solid Wood Model Airplane, 1/48, S-5

Wood Model Kit,   Box Condition: VG++

Sold

Maircraft was originally founded in the early or mid 1930s by Gordon Christoph and went by the name Aircraft Model Company. The company produced a typical line of solid 'profile cut' kits that required the usual high talent levels for carving and finishing. A former Comet Model Airplane & Supply Co. salesman, Jack Mair, bought the company in the early 1940s and renamed it Maircraft. This company was one of the handful of solid kit producers who issued models in a consistent 1/48 scale during the 1930s and 1940s (others included Hawk and Dyna-Model). This lead to one of the most desirable and rare model kits ever produced in the USA - the wood/plastic 1/48 United DC-3 model issued immediately after World War 2. Other than the P-61 and a few other Maircraft offerings, most were simple kits that sold for the low price of about 35 cents and gave the owners many hours of pleasurable work. This kit features a full size plan with instructions steps, fuselage that is about 80% cut, profile cut parts, printwood and a small bag of details. The model has not been started. The parts are either in factory sealed bag(s) or inventoried 100% complete with all parts and instructions.

Ideal Aeroplane & Supply USS Alexander Hamilton Revenue Cutter - 22 Inch Hull Wooden Ship Model

Wood and Metal Model Kit,   Box Condition: Fair

Sold

Wood and metal kit from 1947. Completed model measures 22 inches long. NOTE: This is a builder kit only. It is not a collector kit. It has been started. The precarved balsa hull has been completed. Quality of the work is excellent. The hull is ready to seal and paint. 90% of the printwood parts have been cut out. Only the main deck was cut out neatly - the quality of the remaining work is fair to poor. Some parts were not cut straight and cuts extend inside the outlines. Some parts were glued then removed, and some of them broke. Several small parts are missing like one trailboard, skylight, one cabin side, one door and perhaps more. Luckily they can all be made from sheet balsa. It will take a talented and intrepid modeler who is not afraid of scratch building to complete this kit! Includes all of the round stock for masts, yards and square stock as well. I believe the metal fittings are complete - they include two whale boats, one lifeboat, two inclined ladders (stairs), two ships wheels, two eyelets and 6 cannon. The original running rigging thread is present and the full size plans are complete, readable and completely useable but only in 'good' condition. The Alexander Hamilton was a beautiful revenue cutter in service from 1871 to 1906. She took part in the Spanish-American War as part of the Havana harbor blockade fleet. After her service, she was sold to a private individual in 1906.

The aircraft parts are inventoried 100% complete with all decals and instructions. Frog is considered the father of injection molded model kits. The Lines Brothers opened Frog in 1932, capitalizing on the fever caused by Lindberg's solo transatlantic flight. Almost overnight the western populations became 'Air-Minded', and anything aviation was in high demand. Frog created a quality line of stick and tissue rubber powered aircraft and gliders as well as innovative ready-to-fly rubber powered aircraft that required no assembly. The box even contained a built-in rubber motor winder and fuselage holder. Model airplane flight competitions were popular in Great Britain, and one category was 'Rise Off the Ground', or ROG. By changing this to 'Flies Right Off the Ground', the FROG name was born. In 1936 Frog created a line of injection molded plastic models, the first such kit line in the world (Hawk sold a line of injection molded aircraft models in 1934 but they were factory assembled and painted). Named 'Penguin' after the bird that does not fly, the kits were innovative beyond the means of production. At a time when models were simply built by wingspan, the Penguin line was a constant 1/72 scale. Furthermore, a large 1/72 Short S.30 Empire class flying boat contained a full interior and lights! A line of accessories such as AA guns, tractors, hanger, ambulance, sound locator, searchlights and lighting kits were quickly added to the line. WWII caused a pause in production. After the war the box color changed from silver to green, and Penguin kits were also marketed in the USA. Production ended in 1950. Frog quickly expanded and released the Red, Orange, Black, Green, Gold Token, Spin and Comet series as well as Trail Blazers and several others. It is noteworthy that while most manufacturers in the 1940s/50 were making toy-like models, Frog attempted to make very realistic models. For example, 'detailing' kits with excessively large rivets was once very popular. Frog ignored this trend and continued to mold aircraft with fine panel lines and no rivets. As a result, Frog kits can be built into very realistic replicas. Production ended in the late 1970s, but Frog molds are still in use around the world.
